What makes this weird marking on wood?

Someone on Instagram posted this image asking what insect (assuming it is one) made these tracks? It's on wood and appears to be eating the film on top of it. Any leads would be welcome, it's really bugging me that I don't know haha.

USA Phiddipus Regius Slings (Jumping Spiders)

**They will be ready in 2-3 weeks (maybe less) to ensure they survive shipping** I have about 120 or so Jumping spider slings for sale. I've never sold any of my insects before so I'm willing to sell them cheap as long as they go to a good home!  I'd be willing to take $1 per sling (just give...

    Nail Polish for injured legs?

This is the website I found it on. http://animals.mom.me/tips-on-caring-for-an-injured-praying-mantis-12551976.html I'm very skeptical about any info on mantids outside this forum or bugguide. The more I thought about it the more I realized it was a bad idea so I just left him alone. I thought...

    Nail Polish for injured legs?

I agree with both of you. I was just wondering if it had any benefits. I started thinking about how it could be ingested and I figured it wasn't a good idea. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

    Nail Polish for injured legs?

Hey guys. I feel really bad but I think last night when I misted my mantids when I went to close the lid I guess my mantis moved and I didn't notice so the very end of his back foot got smushed. I think it should be fine but higher up it appears he tried to chew it off a little bit decided not...

    Dragon Mantis article

I actually didn't know that about dragonflies! I think they can be "trained" in the way you are talking about. There's plenty of videos where they learn to be handled without flying away. I started getting an interest in them when I was taking pictures over the summer. At first they kept flying...

    Dragon Mantis article

on an unrelated topic, dragonflies have always seemed more intelligent than we give them credit for. I actually think they'd make good pets despite their whole flying ordeal lol

I made a vertical mantis enclosure out of a kritter keeper, well I tried anyways.

I second this ^ Tape is not the best idea but honestly the closure looks pretty good!! ;) You could also cut a piece of corrugated plastic (the kind they use for signs) and glue it with hot glue to the inside of the enclosure near the lip. This way you can open the lid and not have to worry...

    Dragon Mantis article

Hey guys! Did you see this article? Super cool species! My favorite part are the raptors, the inside is shaped like a bowl almost. I wish they weren't so rare... one can only dream about a species like this being in the hobby one day...

    ISO: Multiple Mantids

Hi! I'm currently in search of multiple mantis species (preferably larger in size) as well as an indian/spiny flower mantis. My price range is anything under $20 per mantis. Hmu if you have multiple species available  Located in Virginia, USA

    Egg bound?

thank you for replying, it's hard for me to decide these things, she's always been one of my favorite mantids. her eyes are also foggy at the front, I'm guessing old age has finally gotten to her

    Egg bound?

also she's really weak I can tell she's suffering... should I euthanize her in the freezer?

    Egg bound?

8 Months, she's over a year old to my knowledge. lately I've been noticing her abdomen is acting like a balloon filled with water. When she's right side up it's touching the floor, and when she's upside down it hangs like its too heavy for her... not sure what I should do. I don't think she'll...

    biOrbAir terrarium?

excessive humidity can cause health issues, but as long as you let it dry out about once a day it shouldn't be a problem. Just like Connor said, it should be a little warmer. most mantids like it on the warmer side. I just use a lamp and an incandescent lightbulb, as they can get pretty hot! if...

    Egg bound?

Awesome, I don't actually know that much about mantids being egg bound. I put a few more sticks in her enclosure and I put a heat lamp on one end of it. There's plenty of foliage and what not, hopefully the heat will get her to try and lay something.

    Egg bound?

Yeah... that's what I have been thinking. Can that actually kill a mantis though? I'm not sure if ive ever heard of a mantis dying solely because they refuse to lay eggs. (Which I think is the case because she is very active and robust)

    Egg bound?

hey guys, I just checked to see how old she is  she's 8 months into adulthood. I'm actually pretty shocked because she's never laid an ooth and I didn't know she was that old. I had posted a picture of her when she had a final molt online and I looked back to see it was in February of this...

    Egg bound?

Hi, I have a female double shield mantis (unmated) that has been an adult for a few months now but still refuses to lay an ooth. I've changed her cage around multiple times but she doesn't seem interested at all. Could this possible kill her? She's been acting perfectly normal.
