I'm 31 and I am more than sympathetic, as is my 29 year old boyfriend. If you form no attachments to your mantids, why keep them at all?

Oh I hope not :( He is eating very well an except the day before he molts he is pretty active. He loves watching tv, which is really funny to see, and he has this weird habit of walking right up to a bottle or glass of water and just staring at it for 20min at a time.

Bruce (male sphodromantis) arrived on September 17th and has molted THREE times already. I thought there was more time between molts? He molted again last night and is now at L5.

Haha, I knew it was something close to that. He just molted to L4 last night.

He is a blue flash, sohpromantis I believe but I am SO bad with scientific names :/

I did not know that Ts could do that. I know I have a bug in my bedroom but spiders, especially giant hairy ones, still give me the oogies.

The fridge trick worked like a charm! We caught 2 house flies and cooled them down and dropped them in with no problem. Our little fatty ate 2 fat house flies and at least 8 fruit flies. At one point he was munching on 3 ff at a time.

Oh! And I fed him a little bit of honey on a stick last night, I am his best friend now. He came running up his stick when I opened the lit to spray him this morning. "Moar honey!"

Likebugs, we are both a little grossed out by the buzzing little bottle in the corner but if it keeps them out of our house I can stand them being in the fridge for a few minutes.

I never would have thought of that! You guys are great :) We were losing our minds swatting the jail breakers away from our dinner.

On my 2nd week of mantis parenting and I cannot figure out how to feed this little guy. I have flies in a water bottle with pin holes for air and I just can't seem to get a few into the enclosure without a bunch making an escape and buzzing merrily around the house for 3 days. I feel like PigPen

I was worried that the little guy would get too dry while we were gone. It molted in the middle of the night and he looks great :) How long should we wait to put more feeders in? I've heard anywhere between one and three days.

I have new mom panic, lol. We are going out of town for the evening, coming back tomorrow night, should I take the flies out and just hope it doesn't molt while we are gone?

Now it won't eat :( It ate a whole fly yesterday mid-morning in under 10min and hasn't touched anything since. It's just looking at the fly in it's cup and not trying to grab it. I've had it for 30hrs so I have no idea when it's going to molt again but I know that rejecting food is a sign. I...

Well I asked for an H. Membranacea but the cup is labeled 'Black Flash' so I guess we will see what he/she molts to :) Trying to post a photo but I'm having problems :/

My mantid just arrived!! Snatched a fly up as soon as I opened the box and he/she is munching away.
