Signs you can look out for for when the female is ready is calling normally seen in the morning or evening or the laying of an infertile ootheca.

    L1? L2? Sub-Adult? Adult? Huh?

It's generally the other way around, males go though less moults than females i.e H. coronatus males mature at 6th instar females at 8th instar, never counted my T. sinensis moults but they moulted around the same time to adulthood so think they go though the same amount.

    Hatching Gongylus Gongylodes ooths!

I never spray my G. gongylode ooths, so I wouldn't worry too much about the dessication part especially as your getting mold on the ootheca. I've had ooths hatch at 4 weeks, but normally around 5-6weeks, depends on the incubation temp.

    Idolomantis diabolica, My First Adult.

Seems to have gone very quite on the Idolomantis front on here, thought I'd share a pic of my first adult female, she'd only been moulted about a day when I took the pic so not showing her colours yet, although I can say 4 days later that she is a stunner. Hopefully the rest of them won't be...

    Ghost hasn't laid yet.

It may be worth mating them again, she was only a immature adult when you mated her, so there may be a chance the first mating did not do the trick.

    Heat lighting length on time

I think you hit the nail on the head!! Get some experience with "tropical" mantids (not Tropical fish, reptiles, amphibians, etc) first Scott, before preaching about how they should or shouldn't be kept.

    Heat lighting length on time

Great thread, Scott, could I ask what species of mantid have you personally kept, reared and breed, and also what sort of conditions you have personally kept them at?

    What do you say?

Just to let you know it is possible to hatch "temperate" M. religiosa without a diapause, I've done it on at least 2 occasions, although nymphs are somewhat weaker, it is still possible to raise them to adulthood.

    FFs

If you really did want to start a flying fruit fly culture it is very easy, just put your culture container with the culture media in and place this in a shed, or green house and the flies will be attracted to this and lay their eggs, in no time at all you will have a culture of flying fruit...
