    Whats Crackin Yall

Whoop, that's what I meant when I said "wood glue," which are indeed different things.

    Whats Crackin Yall

I'm not a carpenter, so take my advice with a margarita-sized grain of salt. You could try using wood glue on one of the pieces, preferably the side that receives the least amount of strain. It's probably not the best solution without some support, but these aren't exactly heavy-lifting boxes...

    mantis eyes

Mantids don't have pupils, that's a part of more complicated eyes. Mantid eyes do appear to have black dots in them, is this what you're referring to? Those are caused by very similar reasons to pupils; the angle you're looking at them in is absorbing a lot of light so they appear dark. The...

    I'm afraid I don't follow your meaning.

    mantis eyes

"interesting question" was in reference to the thread's topic. EDIT: Whoops, looks like you edited that question out. Nothing to see here. :P

    mantis eyes

An interesting question that has to do with the type of eyes Mantids have. Mantids, like all insects, have compound eyes which unlike human eyes are constructed of thousands of individual 'eye-units' called ommatidia which cover the eye. Each ommatidia picks up a single flat picture and all of...

    chatroom

I didn't think I was particularly mocking in my post. If I didn't know for a fact that aje was aware of the announcement thread, I wouldn't have said anything, as it would have been completely fair of someone to miss. However, he posted in that thread, asked this very same question and got an...

    chatroom

You posted repeatedly in that very thread, were told in that thread that they were closed and may not ever open, and now that the chatroom is closed thread is closed you're posting in the other discussions thread? You need to work on your reading skills and stop spamming the board.

    Crickets like Jalapeno?

If you do try jalapenos, I'd suggest removing the seeds and inner membrane of the pepper first, so all that's available is the flesh of the pepper. Most of the capcaisin is in the seeds, the flesh is actually fairly mild. Crix might like it. :D

    Color of Empusa pennata

I want to extrapolate on my previous comment regarding finding pictures of other mantids that were colored this way. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Phil is correct and these pictures have been manipulated in some way, and the pictures I'm linking to may have had the same thing done...

    Color of Empusa pennata

Don't hold me to this because it was just some quick googling, but it looks like this striking coloring isn't terribly common with the species; most pics I found were shades of ruddy green and brown. I did find some that were this bright green and pink, but most weren't. I didn't find a lot of...

    usergroups

Why not make a new subforum instead? No reason that there couldn't be a new section under Mantid Discussions, something like "Culture Conservation" where there can be threads created for each species and breeders can keep each other apprised of what species they have or are struggling with...

    Chinese L4 mis-molted badly

You might want to try upping the humidity a little (don't go over-board, don't want their cage molding), as moisture helps mantids molt, just to decrease the likelihood of subsequent mismolts.

    Newbie, and a question

Some people like to believe mantids will emoblize there prey before consuming it. This is not true. Insects don't have much in terms of thinky-parts, and generally-speaking if you place the behavior of insects within the confines of mammalian, or even vertebrate, behavior you come to off-base...

    New to the Hobby

Haha, that's good advice, but I'm worried I might mix up that bag with my daughter's lunch bag one day. OH NO! "Here you go honey, enjoy your lunch of FLIES." Worst parent ever.

    New to the Hobby

Haha, to them! To them! She thinks they're neat, but I doubt she'd develop an interest in them beyond a passing one. She doesn't want to hold them because she has a thing about bugs crawling on her, so I'm certainly not going to press her. She likes them well enough, and I've been careful to...

New at mantids: trying to breed my Tenodera sinensis

Females are ready to start being bred around a month into their adulthood. There's some debate, but the consensus I've seen is to introduce the male into the female's cage. feed the female copiously beforehand to try and avoid cannibalization. In fact, it's best to try and time it so the...
