Anyone know how to get rid of eye rub on a mantis?

@yankeeman1421 when they see another mantis or they see something they wanna grab they'll continually try to get at it and while doing so they can damage their eyes. It happens in hard walled enclouseres, mesh is a bit easier on the eyes if they're going crazy in there. I've only had it happen...

    Hello!

Hi welcome! I believe Mantid Kingdom has ghosts available and will be having Giant African mantids very soon too. Those are great starters. Bugsincyberspace.com has Hierodula venosa which are very sweet and get very large. Feel free to message me with any questions! Or post them on the forum...

Anyone know how to get rid of eye rub on a mantis?

Yeah I've had a couple with mild eye rub that went away with molts. They hunted just fine. ??

    First Time Mating (Chinese Mantis)

I've only heard of wild caught mantids chewing thru fabric. I have had several captive bred ones and never had that problem.

parasitoid wasp! and Chinese nymphs not eating

Well, the wasps wouldn't affect the now born babies. I think they eat on day 2 or 3 from what I've read, it is their first molt after all, they need to fully harden. Just kill any wasps that come out so any more ooths you have don't befall the same fate.

bad molts- what did I do wrong?

@hookedonmantids yeah I would switch the violin out of there asap, you can go buy one of those little laundry hampers for now, them get something better later. Also you don't need to go out and buy new cups, I just modify all of mine to fit the mantid's needs. It's cheaper, haha.

    Hi mantis peeps,

@bug lady Really? Haha, I met someone else on here too not too far away. Maybe we can all go bug hunting.

    Hi mantis peeps,

@bug lady Hello fellow SoCal mantis person! Welcome! Yes the mesh enclouseres caused the missmolts, no humidity with those. Dead leaf mantids are on the harder side to keep. You'll definitely have little problems with the ghosts and Indian flower mantids. Good luck!

bad molts- what did I do wrong?

@hookedonmantids It maybe that they didn't have a proper foot hold to molt. I give my violins sticks and window screening and they've all molted successfully, also make sure that you keep that violin at high temps to avoid future problems as well. I keep mine at 85-90°. All my other mantids have...

@Coyote So sorry for your loss.

    My Mantis is dying...

@Coyote Aww, she's a beautiful mantis, and it sounds like you really care for her. What I've done for my old mantids to make them comfortable is adding a small platform for when the claws start to fall off and they can't hang anymore. If they can't hunt, I'll hand feed them with tweezers. Once...

    I Got Another Mini Mantis

I've heard of mantids skipping molts straight to adulthood. Some go through all the molts but are small for an adult mantis of its species. Yours @Jessie is just a smaller adult, you've shown me pics and it molted from pre sub to sub to adult. Idk what causes the molt skipping though, very...
