    My Rhombodera basalis

@Sticky sure thing! I got a new female and she's proving difficult to breed, she's a striker.

    How much to feed L3/4s

I keep mine plump, so I'll feed them until their abdomen isn't skinny looking anymore.

    Temporary emergency food?

@Zuzu I actually found a reptile store near me with awesome feeders, they had cheaper fruit fly cultures than petco, so you can try looking for one too. Otherwise just do as @Kermit suggested, I've caught wild bugs too in a pinch.

Getting your money's worth on a mantis

I would wait. In the meantime, look at other species, hopefully spiny flower pops up at a cheaper price, then maybe you can get several when before you could just get one. Join mantis facebook groups as well, ppl are always selling there too.

    Infection/rot/wound on lower abdominal segment?

Can you post a pic? It might be runoff diarrhea, but if it's really rotting then I'm sorry to say that it's not something that can be fixed unfortunately ?

    He molted to adult!

Or you could send him my way, can never have too many males ?. Either way, congrats!! ?

    He molted to adult!

He should be ok for mating, mine fell to but mated just fine. I know @Vixorthegreat is looking for a male if you want babies!

    Swollen abdomen and black gunk

@Barlon I feed mine mealworms, superworms, BB flies, house flies, stable flies, waxworms as a treat, and I'm actually going to the store in a bit to buy dubia roaches. I find that they really really love flies, but I know they it gets pricey to buy spikes, so there are several tutorials on here...

Welcome back! Glad everything is ok!

    Swollen abdomen and black gunk

@Barlon I can't seem to find the thread that this was discussed on, but crickets carry a bunch of bacteria, plus they're nasty. They sell them for reptiles and reptiles can digest it just fine, but for a mantis it means death. Some people have successfully been feeding crickets with no problems...

    Swollen abdomen and black gunk

@Barlon it might have been a bad feeder, I avoid crickets because they can cause sickness and death in mantids. They can give the mantis black death, which is black diarrhea and vomit. Everything else you're doing is great, I would just avoid crickets in the future.
  19. crabbypatty

    Swollen abdomen and black gunk

@Barlon what are you feeding them? How often do you mist? How are you housing them?

    Waxworm pupa turning black?

@Mystymantis I'm going thru the same thing right now, I tried looking it up online but they only show you how to breed them. Last time this happened I thought they were dead, so I threw them out, haha. I guess I'll just leave them alone and see what happens.
