    Incomplete Ghost Ooth Hatching

You can cut it open and you'll either see the unhatched did not develop or they simply never made it out. With ghosts the first is possible (with most species it's always the second). Likely you kept the ootheca too dry, but if you keep it too wet, zero will hatch.

How do you find walking sticks?!

Diapheromera are not a super easy species. Manomera are very easy and are also from your area. I found a few on vegetation near a river over a a few times but never found any there again.

    Damon diadema bit me!

I think when people say something doesn't bit humans the idea is they are harmless to humans, not that superficial damage or sort-of bites are impossible. Even a worm or salamander running its mouth across your skin technically might be termed a bite. There is nothing with a mouth that...

    A former member.

I remember your username. You don't remember the password? The male mantis really has a rough relationship, animals in general but predators especially.

Please post photos of oothecae if you get them. Just curious if they're a unique design.

Best Isopod species for Mantis enclosure?

I'd say a couple of giant canyons would be good for a cage with substrate. I don't think any isopod could last a day in a bare-bottom cage.

    Yes, that is my experience.

    Age

It extends their lifespan, possibly greatly but only by the length of time they are nymphs. Let's say a mantis species normally takes 3 months to reach maturity and adults live 4 months. If you extend the nymph time to 10 months they live a total of 14 months. Of course if you aren't careful...

Does Anyone Have Access To Bramble?

There are a few other types of plant they can survive on that you can find with leaves outside this late in the year in your area including rose and firethorn.

    Do parthenogenetic species pheromone call?

Yes, parthenogenesis is an abrupt change in reproductive strategies, not something that occurs over time and might engender associated adaptations.

About to buy a dozen orchid nymphs. What equipment do I need for them?

I find it interesting hobbyists sometimes pick on others for admitting not all their mantids live. Were they to all survive, a single pair of most species in 12-15 generations would exceed the mass of the earth.

    Stick insects in southern california?

That's pretty neat but I would imagine a similar soil from anywhere in the world would work. I've never had a chance to even see a live Timema, but I have reared various eastern spp.

    Stick insects in southern california?

Where did you hear that? Sounds interesting, I've never heard of eggs of anything that needed native soil (just vampire coffins).
