    Stick insects in southern california?

There's also the western short-horned phasmid which has been kept for dozens of generations. Find any Timema Mantidguy? I've never seen anyone with those.

    Mealworms & Styrofoam Composting

I'm curious if they really can survive on it alone.

    Smaller millipede

What do you think the trick to Brachycybe is? They seem to do good for nine months and then a few months later not so much.

    Giant blue Philippine Acladocricus

I first saw these come in in 2005 (stock on cover is descended from the first imports) though they are one of the few things I've heard still come in now and then. Imports drop eggs like they're going out of style but it's a bit more to get them through a full life cycle.

How do mantids spread if females can’t fly?

There are many invertebrates that cannot fly and yet are found across North America and were here before humans migrated over on the land bridge. It does take longer to walk than fly but centipedes, millipedes, springtails, isopods and many others do not have wings.

How do mantids spread if females can’t fly?

If they can't fly they have to walk. Many native species in North America have flightless females.

URGENT: really weak ghost mantis, around L6 or L7

Lobster roach nymphs are excellent food for ghosts but only if the ghost enclosure doesn't have spots for them to hide (they hide in dirt and under objects). A second instar ghost can eat a 1st instar lobster roach but I usually keep the fruit flies going though 3rd or 4th instar. Crickets are...

    Keeping the Praying Mantis Question

There are only a few books in the world on keeping mantids and I think every dedicated keeper wants to have a complete library for the animals they love. The Keeping Aliens book was written in 2001 and slightly updated in 2008 and for a long time it was the best English-language book ever...

Any Recommendations on how to lower Humidity and Temperature

I think of humidity as water vapor and moisture as condensed water even if it is just a film.

    the orchid mantis color experiment

I think people who do not notice results have substrate or other materials in or as part of the cage that throw off the experiment. The colored item has to be essentially the only color in the cage that the animal sees. Extra background colors throw it off and confuse the results. You can...

Any Recommendations on how to lower Humidity and Temperature

You could try a wine cooler. Otherwise put the cage on the floor and add vents. I've purchased and used different humidity sensors and strongly believe percent humidity is barely a useful parameter, it's really about moisture, ventilation, and airflow.

URGENT: really weak ghost mantis, around L6 or L7

I'm thinking she's dying from slow starvation if she's L6 or L7 and still only getting fruit flies. There are other options like lobster roaches. An adult could survive a long time on flies but a late stage nymph needs to grow or die. It's not impossible to rear a large nymph on fruit flies but...

    Greeting from SoCal!

Welcome! Great photos. It is a love you can keep going a long time. I'm sincerely hoping bugs catch up to sports a little with nobody going to games (it has always amazed me that watching another person play a game is a thousand times more beloved than studying spectacular creatures that are a...

    Synapze

I saw some mantids available at a crazy low price and though it seemed to good to be true I placed the order. At best I expected some tiny babies, but got late instar nymphs sexed at 50/50. All healthy and shipped promptly. Very impressive.
