    congrats on the ootheca. It will harden and be easier to take out after a few days. If she got lucky before you got her and the ooth is fertile, then it would be good to pop it in the fridge till you are ready for hatchlings.

    we do have both european and chinese mantids established from vancouver to at least as far as kelowna and vernon. Since people brought them in in the early 1900's. So a male wandering finding her wouldn't be unheard of, until it freezes.
