    Issues with raising Dubias

Hello bugboymark, Blaptica dubia arent supposed to lay ooths, so if you are seeing them all aborting their oothecae/dropping them, it means something is way off. I am not sure what the issue is, but have you tested your humidity? If it gets too low, that might explain it, although many keep...

    Mushroom in Habitat?

Thats a nice looking bolete. It will probably seed your enclosure with some microfauna and maybe a few mushroom flies for your mantids to snack on, if its kept from drying out:)

    Yulee Final Molt- FAIL!!!

Aw, sorry to hear and see that. One of my last three Orthodera looked the exact same after mismolting last night.. Its one of those things, I guess.

Eremiaphila sp. (Desert Mantis)- How to Care for?

they are also very aggressive and fast. Best given lots of space to run around, and kept seperately. If they dont have enough room, they will run into the walls. 1 ft x 1ft is what I was told, even for the young nymphs. Or so I've read, anyway. The Eremiaphilla ooth (I bought from exo)...

New Jersey man caught by federal investigators

Wow. Are they serious about those numbers? Is this just he famous technique of piling up worse of charges to force a guilty plea, for lesser charges(from fear of a wrongfull conviction for the absurd charges)? I read that the USA justice system relies on this to get around the constitutional...

    Changing Container for Molting

When I hatched one of my first ooths I too, put material (shelf liner) on 3 sides, aswell as the top of the container to make sure they could grip and molt well(Idolomantis cant grip plastic well). I was used to having a stick in my first species(Miomantis paykulli) and I thought it looked...

    Puking or diarrhea?

I'm not sure theres anything wrong my mantids sometimes have little splatters on their enclosure walls. So far the only time I've had any issues were when mantids were kept excessively humid and vommited reddish-brown. It is good to keep an eye on them, and someone please correct me if I'm...

    Using dubias as feeders...........

The orchid has not any problems, right? I've not kept barks, maybe they are a sensitive species. I suspect the dubia to be fine, but that's just a feeling.. I hope your luck changes:)

    Breeding of Dubia roaches

Hey ausar318, Dubia roaches will grow faster and mature the warmer it is, and wont be harmed if its as warm as 100 degrees, so I'd recomend that you put it on the bottom. As long as long as they dont dry out they should be happy and happy and breeding for you in no time.

    Hello!

Hi Ellithain,  Welcome and congrats on the new aquistion:) One thing that helps with fly wrangling(at least for non flying strains), is almost any fine dust, just a small pinch, tossed into your fly cup, and swirled around so it coats the bottom cm (thats 1/2 inch for y'all Southern folk;) )...

    Source for Metal microscreen?

I acquired 20 kinds of roaches in an attempt to find a feeders in a range of size, activity, heat, humidity prefernces, so that I can leave a weeks worth of food in varied temperature and humidty enclosures. The idea was to make raising/breeding several species a bit less tedious.  Fabric lids...

Not sure if the world is ready for this...

Right? To be fair, they do prey and probably aren't actually praying, despite their raptorial arms' resting position. So I can forgive that part, but killing a tree? I...just..lol By the way, ausar318, those are nice looking shots lovely mantid:) How old is she?

    Before and after?

Hi Nicolas, Congrats, on Earl reaching maturity:) He is looking good.  Cockroaches are just fine as a staple. Some mantids don't seem to be interested in them, without being hand fed, but nutritionally they are pretty good.

Not sure if the world is ready for this...

Ew!  Heh, people can come up with bizare ideas when they don't know enough.. The best one I heard lately was a person who's trees were sickly and dying. They found an ootheca on the tree and seemed to think it was responsible. https://www.whatsthatbug.com/2018/03/11/mantis-ootheca-8/

She's calling, but no one is picking up...

I feel ya. My first try with Miomantis paykulli, I recieved two females, so no mating. I have tried to provide companionship to my single mantids by putting videos of other peoples mantids on a screen and videos of them mating if possible. They seem to watch with interest, but I'm not sure if...

    Glass tank cleaner?

I use vinegar straight from the bottle or dilute citric acid to clean glass of calcium/lime/hard water stains, but I prefer to just use R/O water to avoid it in the first place. I think its better for Mantids than getting dosed with Chlorine/Chloramine and all kinds of other nasties found in tap...
