    A special new arrival

Most snakes will take frozen-thawed; the ones that accept live only are few. None of mine have that issue, beyond perhaps one hatchling that doesn't want anything I give it (but he's a basket case all his own that I at least partly blame the breeder for).

Sorry, didn't see this. The vast majority of snakes do not recognize insects as food. Nearly all mine eat mice.

FS: Ghost Ooths and Elmantis nymphs

As the title says: P. paradoxa ooths are available for sale! Asking $15 each, and I only sell ooths from females I've confirmed as fertile (ie. lots of nymphs already hatched that may also need thinning out later). Additionally, Elmantis sp. bark mantis nymphs available, as I don't need to keep...

(SOLD) Elmantis sp. females and ooths!

As I now have plenty of nymphs for the next generation and thus confirmed fertility of a few females, I have both the currently laid ooths from said females as well as a couple of the fertile females themselves for sale. Asking $10 apiece for either. US Only.

    A special new arrival

I don't have photos uploaded to a hosting site of my Australian ambassadors (a pair of snappy little spotted pythons -working on calming them down), but I do of a couple other recent arrivals. First, Gideon the gray-banded kingsnake. While I've already got several North American species, this...

    A special new arrival

Not very. They are very rarely bred in captivity, a lot are wild-caught (which I don't recommend), and they're not handling animals. Plus as small as they are, they get out of cages that aren't wholly secure rather easily. Most insect-eating snakes are similar, and many don't live long in...

    A special new arrival

Allow me to fuel that fire a little more :D The collection (at least for the next few years as my limit for hiding new things is filled) is nearing completion, and the latest additions are these two het hypomelanistic Baird's Rat Snakes (Pantherophis bairdi).  Leah by Hawken Carlton, on...

    A special new arrival

I actually caught the shovelnose munching on a roach a couple weeks ago...such a rare thing since they're very nocturnal and very skittish around people. In other news: the zoo is still expanding :P Tsefan by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr This is Tsefan; he's a Mexican Black Kingsnake...

    hcarlton's Mantid Photos

I like the bigger species, but they all seem to have issues of one form or other...the Shields and Giant Asians had males that never seemed to want to breed, I've got two Carolina females but no males, the second budwing female ate the male and I'm not sure if the pairing he had with either...

    3 P. paradoxa ooths available

As title says, I have 3 ghost ooths available for sale; oldest one may be very close to hatching so sooner sold is better. Asking $15 each. Also, I have a pair (male and female) of ghost nymphs available as well, $8 each.

    A special new arrival

If referring to the Shovelnose, many are wild-collected but some are captive-bred; hoping mine is among the latter but he's already fairly large for the species (they only get to about 15" max).

    A special new arrival

The family grew again... This is Halailah; she's a newborn (still has her umbilical scar even) Baja king snake. Originally planned on getting a Mexican Black king, but she was cheaper and, besides the cool stripe down her back, she's just as dark as one. Good chance she'll stay that way too. ...

60? A humid day here is 40 % (though with all the plants I grow it's probably a fair bit higher in the house itself.

    hcarlton's Mantid Photos

My females drink most of the times that I spritz the containers (and the two original breeding females are still around too; male was gone a long while ago. It's been long enough the next generation is probably abut a month and a half, maybe two from maturing). But then, I live in a relatively...

    hcarlton's Mantid Photos

No luck needed apparently, just a jostle...the container they're in was sitting near a heat lamp just to see if that would encourage anything, but it was in the way today so I went to move it back, and the moment I picked up the container the male connected with the female...weirdo....

So, turned out all 4 of the Polyphemus cocoons hatched female...sigh... However, there was hope yet to be had elsewhere: first, this handsome fella hatched! Luna moth male by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr Luna moth male by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr Luna moth male by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr...

What's this? An update? Sadly, my Gonatista passed away, from reasons entirely unknown...but I still have too many Chinese mantids everywhere that I could stand to sell, and this guy below finally made it to adult: Parasphendale agrionina male by Hawken Carlton, on Flickr Parasphendale...

The Cecropias I think would be the biggest hit with people I've talked to around here, if you're willing at all to part with any. I have host plants for them currently too.

    On Royal Wings

The cocoon she hatched out of was set aside for early hatching to show students of mine; while I have other cocoons, it was not my intent to try and get a mate for her. However, another female hatched out recently in the basement, so my hand is being forced and all the cocoons have come...
