    Sally's mantis thread start 05/13

That happens with the Orchids. It seems like a shame that we can't breed all of the females. I wonder what it is about this species. I wish we could figure it out. I was so happy with my last attempt when both of my females readily mated with multiple males. But I knew it was a bad sign when one...

    Praying Mantises have Spoiled Me

I spent a lot on housing in the beginning because I do use a lot of terrariums for the larger species. The nice thing about terrariums is that they last. I find that the plastic deli cups and lids eventually crack and need to be replaced. Nowadays my main expense is feeders. I make my own fruit...

    Sally's mantis thread start 05/13

Sorry to hear that Andrew. That keeps happening to me. I mated one female with four different males, and she laid ooths on a regular basis. I asked that question on the Facebook page and validated that I'm incubating them correctly. I always gave up on my ooths after a couple of months, but...

    Sally's mantis thread start 05/13

That is great! And if you posted your photos in the order they were taken, that means your female was a little ahead of your male. I don't think you could have timed that more perfectly. How long did you wait before you took those photos? Both of your adults are very green. Was one of them the...

    L1/first instar comparison (appearance only)

It's been over four months since I've done any mantis photography. Today I had to cancel my original plans due to a rainy day and got my camera set up for macro photography. I just added my 26th photo to this thread. It's the last photo in the third post. (The Brunner's mantis is my 25th first...

    Free Ranging Accident

That's too bad. I've never had any survive with a rupture that bad. Sometimes they live for a while. I hope you have a different outcome. I still let some of mine loose but after a bad accident, I try to ensure that they have a softer place to land. Good luck and let us know what happens.

    Who likes the county fair?

The Washington County fairgrounds is just about two miles from my house. I'm sure it's much smaller than your county fair. I went one year because they had helicopter rides. We went a few years ago to eat the food. There isn't much else we like to do at the county fair. BUT we go to the...
