    Ashlee's Collection Thread

A quick update, Ridley isn't doing too well and I'm afraid that she might be nearing the end of her life. She no longer has the strength to hang from her lid, and she has started to refuse food when I offer it to her. I'm going to see if she'll take some honey later.

    No ooths?

She's still alive and always eager to eat when I feed her. Other than not laying any ooths she seems perfectly healthy, I'm a bit puzzled.

    Excuse My Ignorance

Since you're just feeding the one mantis you may be able to get away with hand feeding her crickets or roaches with a pair of feeding tongs. Right now I just have the three mantises, so hand feeding doesn't take me very long.

This camouflage is almost unfair lol

It took me a minute to find her!

    No ooths?

Nothing yet. She still refuses to lay.  :(

They are so precious!   They do look exactly like little black ants.

    My pet Vinegaroon (Mastigoproctus giganteus)

Haha, I understand! They're just a dream tarantula for me right now, hubby has firmly told me no. I don't blame him, they are intimidating for sure!

I put this together out of a 10 gallon fish tank

These turned out great! I have an empty ten gallon tank that my snake outgrew, my husband may have a new project on his hands.  ;)

    Hello! Im new

Welcome, Max! Hopefully soon you can convince your mom to let you get a snake or spider. As a teen I was eventually able to convince my mom to let me get a corn snake. It took some work, but it was worth it! :)

What to feed Giant Asian Mantis at L2 stage (other than fruit flies)

You can also try small mealworms. I've had a lot of luck with mealworms when I offer them to the mantids with my feeding tongs. I found "mini" sized mealworms at Petco, I believe. They were nice little treats for my smaller nymphs.

    A whole new world!

Orchids are incredible little insects! I loved mine, he was a pretty fearless little guy as well.

Branched out into Wolf Spiders (Lycosidae)

The slings are so cute!   I'll occasionally run into one of these guys in our apartment, but I've never bothered to keep one. I always catch and release them outside, I think I have enough spiders for now.

    My Tarantulas

Thank you! :) Yeah, $30 is a bit high. I paid $19 plus shipping (I think shipping was around $15) from Jamie's Tarantulas for my little Euathlus sp red. I have found my little guy pretty easy to care for, but it's typically recommended that beginner tarantula owners start with a...

It's probably about time, all my girls are adults and I'm itching for a baby mantis again.

    My Tarantulas

I finally have a photo of my little B. klaasi, who I named Rouge (Roo). It's not a very good picture, she is small and a bit flighty!

Sphodromantis lineola (Maude) enjoying a fly

She looks just as beautiful in her new color! I love the first photo, she looks like she's really enjoying that fly.  :)

They sound so adorable!   I'm living vicariously through other breeders right now, I bet it's an amazing experience to watch these little guys hatch and grow!

    My pet Vinegaroon (Mastigoproctus giganteus)

    C. cyaneopubescens are great for beginners because they're so easy to care for! Mine has been the easiest tarantula ever. She has always had a great appetite, has molted perfectly, and I find this species extremely beautiful. She does have an attitude, but that's to be expected. Euathlus sp Red...

    My pet Vinegaroon (Mastigoproctus giganteus)

If you can convince your wife I highly recommend you get a tarantula! I've only been keeping them for a little over a year and a half, but they have quickly become my favorite pets. They are so beautiful, and some of their behaviors can be fascinating to watch. :)
