    Where to buy/start?

It has nothing to do with Business, I was offering something up completely free, a dozen or so Ghost nymphs for a group viv are a pretty decent way to start out and make sure this hobby is for you before spending any excess cash or commiting yourself to the forum. I try and help out all who I can.

Is setting up a fruit fly culture hard?

I use the best excelsior I can find, and trust me its not the stuff that mushes up and gets real nasty but you couldn't pay me to try and take it out the cup and wash it...... Tony is right some things just are not worth it, your risking many things even a mold allergy should your cultures have...

or like I said just pay $8 and I will send you a box of ghosts so you can be sure this hobby is for you before making any real investments in it. This hobby has a long reputation for people coming in spending alot of cash and deciding its not for them. Michael

Is setting up a fruit fly culture hard?

Brewers Yeast is actually the key ingredient in most FF Medias it is what makes them produce so well. FlyCafe has a good media, as does Repashy but I make my own, its better anyways. But most depend on Brewers Yeast. My media is producing cups full of maggots that are pupating at about 11 days.

    Empusa Pennata

I plan to give them a try, I would like to keep two pair differently and see.

    Empusa Pennata

Based on the available info, and breeding info I am leaning on these not being as difficult as some have made them out to be. I do understand location being a factor but as far as I know if their region hits a cold snap I could be wrong but given that they may be in locations that do contribute...

    Empusa Pennata

I have heard so many different answers to this the last 2 days. I heard it was subadult as well.

    silkworm culture

They are bigger moths, which means they need less meals and he just said he's working on it. Im sure he wasn't downing the silkworms or their use.........

    origin of Phyllocrania stock

Your still missing my point, how are your dwarf and color mutations going to help? There is almost no genetic diversity involved after line breeding them generations in to get what you want. You talk about building genetic diversity in our collections but you want to line breed how does this work?

    silkworm culture

    silkworm culture

Be carefull when hatching silkworm eggs they are very delicate, temp fluctuations will kill them they are very delicate for a while.

    origin of Phyllocrania stock

Also consider this, the wild population of these species are being hit from many angles, the collecting of them for the hobby is just a fraction of it, pesticides, pollution, and deforestation play the major rolls, what good is reintroducing the mantids into a setting that will just kill them?
  20. Bug Trader

    origin of Phyllocrania stock

So you speak of species reintroduction but isnt one of the MUSTS in this to be a very natural and untampered genetic material? I have quite a bit of knowledge in this area, probably argued or debated it with many people atleast far more than anyone on this forum. Now on to getting a species...
