    Devils Flower mantis

@LamboMantisMan23 My goodness, that’s a good caresheet ?  Very descriptive and complete.   Now about the humidity... ive never heard anything as absurd as what you said (but it actually does make sense)! And I say that in the most respectful, kind way that I can. I am genuinely intrigued by...

    Spiders in enclosure? Help

Spiders can work as for, but you must be careful with them. I’ve lost a couple presub Chinese to orbweavers (which I turned around and raised ?)  its not just the danger from the spider itself, but the webs. They are a bare to clean out. And if you ever decide to let any nymphs hatch in that...

    Devils Flower mantis

That’s a pretty nice setup. What are the measurements on that terrarium? I was thinking about taking a ten gallon aquarium (18x12x12, I think) and setting it up on its end, so it’s 18 inches tall, and 12 wide and deep. I would also basically wrap the inside with screen, so it would be able to...

    Nymph *** Confirmation

Using their crown is the easiest way to see them, in my opinion. Their color can just be so dark sometimes, that it’s virtually impossible to see the divisions on their abdomens.  The only other indicator would be their antennae, which apparently are different. But I’m not sure if this is an...

Surprise: dubia babies hatch: Can they be food?

If I were you, I wouldn’t use them for feeders. I’m not sure how/if the nymphs are somehow fed while inside the female, if it’s like with humans, where the things eaten by the mother are passed to the child. It might be the same with dubias, but then again, it most likely isn’t. Nonetheless, to...

    Breeding Dubias

Ok, here we go ? to start, Dubia roaches aren’t really a typical roach. They are not like the normal roaches that infest everything, everywhere. Dubias are a tropical roach, meaning they need a higher temperature to survive, and eventually breed. If you keep them at room temperature, they are...

    Hello from Toronto

Welcome! It’s always good to get more members. It’s like the family is growing ? The only difference is that this family has members that are obsessed with the keeping of aliens! (I’m one of these ?)

    Breeding Dubias

I will help you with this. I was in the same situation with my father, and I was able to convince him. It might take a day or two (college gives a LOT of homework!), but I’ll definitely make a list of benefits for you.  Just wanted to tell you so you’d know I was working on it ?

    Opinion needed. FF culture quality.

I’m not going to say that you got scammed, but the culture does appear to be at least a weeks old, maybe more. When you bought it, was it sold as a “Producing culture” or a fresh culture? I can’t really tell from the picture, but they look like Melos... from my experience (which is limited)...

    MITES!

I’ve never had any issues with mites (yet ?). Where do they come from?  @kwright if you are able to transfer the flies, you will want to be REALLY careful not to transfer the mites. I’ve read that they spread like crazy once you have them.

    Heat lamp too close?

I’ve never had any problems with bright lights, and I use LEDs most often. Like River Dane said, they would be looking at the sun all day long if it was in the wild.  Tye key is the heat. As long as the light doesn’t heat up the plastic too much (or melt it ?) then you should be alright. Just...

    Is this normal??

Mantids can be fickle sometimes. I’ve had mantids go 4-5 days without food, and then they just randomly start eating like normal after that. It’s definitely a good thing that she started eating!

Eremiaphila sp. (Desert Mantis)- How to Care for?

Hey! I just got 3 of them yesterday! They came from Yen. I’m really excited about them. They are indeed small, but I’ve read that they are really aggressive, so I don’t think they’ll be hard to feed. Good thing I’ve got a Dubia colony!

    Bugsincyberspace.com (Peter Clausen) (US)

Got a free mantis habitat (for becoming a forum supporter), as well as a nice little scorpion. Communication was very good, shipping was fast, and I got everything alive, healthy, and in very good shape. Definitely will order from Peter again!

    MantisKingdom/DeShawn

Once again, I am very pleased with my interaction with DeShawn. He is excellent with communication, and is overall very helpful.  I ordered 2 subadult ghosts (which I needed desperately) and 3 Ceratomantis saussurii, which I’ve always thought were really cool. Shipping was very quick, and...

    Yen Saw - (US)

What more can possibly be said? Yen is perhaps one of the best mantis breeders in the hobby. His communication is excellent, and he never ignores anything you ask him. He is very generous with all his knowledge, and answers all questions straightforwardly and very detailed.  Ao anyway, I...

    Pseudoacanthops care?

That is pretty high. I like keeping it around 85 for her, as much as possible. So far she hasn’t been hesitant with her food. She’s eating a little Dubia in the bottom picture, which she eagerly took from by hand as soon as she saw it.  They really are an amazingly beautiful species

    Pseudoacanthops care?

I appreciate your help. The instructions you gave are pretty close to what I’m following. I keep her at about 27C, and I mist her enclosure at least twice a day. The humidity hovers around 75-85%.  Please do not misunderstand, I tried to research them. The issue is that I was unable to find any...

    Devils Flower mantis

Thanks @john57. That’s very helpful.  Do you think you could upload a photo of you meet up? That would help clear up any misunderstandings I have of your setup.  Thanks!

    Devils Flower mantis

I just bought a couple Devils Flower mantids (against my better judgement, I think), and I was just wondering if they really are as hard to rear as every caresheet says. I know that orchids are apparently pretty difficult, but I haven’t really had any issues with them.  Anyway, all the...
