    Taumantis sigiana young'uns

Just a couple of candids this afternoon of "Zuri" (L4 Taumantis sigiana) exploring Mount Knuckle and "Nia" (same species and instar) munching on a melanogaster.  Pencil eraser for scale.

    abdomen popped

BMO - I had an adult female Tenodera sinensis fall 6 feet onto a marble floor.  She also ruptured her abdomen. I sealed the wound with a small amount of honey.  She not only survived, but went on to give me 5 ooths.  Do not, under any circumstances, try to use any human medicines (like Bactine...

I am getting an invert I once disliked!

Thanks guys, I stand corrected.  Scutigera coleoptrata is a centipede (one main differential from millipedes is centis have one leg per body segment.  Millis have two).

I am getting an invert I once disliked!

Common house millipedes ( Scutigera coleoptrata )  most often send family, neighbors and friends into a state of stark raving madness when these creatures are found scurrying (sometimes at lightning speed) across a floor or wall.  Even bulky, tattooed Harley-riders turn into whimpering girly-men...

What excelsior do you use? (FF cultures)

Well, it turns out that the culture in question has exploded with larvae.  I was too impatient and had forgotten how resourceful these Drosophila melanogaster are.  I started a second culture - with great care and precision (judging the media consistency just so; adding a hint of apple cider...

What excelsior do you use? (FF cultures)

Hi guys -- all smart, useful ideas and suggestions. Thanks.  My first thought was the media was too wet. But, if memory serves (which it doesn't much anymore), the consistency of the Rapashy was about the same as my past successful cultures.  That said - it looked like once they hit the media...

What excelsior do you use? (FF cultures)

It's been a long time since I started fruit fly cultures.  Using my tried-and-true Repashy as a starter, I filled the 32 oz cup with dried moss.  This moss is purchased at the craft store AC Moore.  I've used it b4 - but don't remember if I microwaved or washed it first (probably did neither). ...

    Ru's Mantids!

Hi Rude, I've raised a lot of Tenodera sinensis.  Many breeders snub them as too common.  I love 'em.  Most mantids prefer to hang upside-down on top of the container or diagonally on a branch or stick.  However, some will spend time on the "floor."  The raptor forelegs are normally held closed...

    Yen Saw - (US)

I recently did a purchase from yen for the first time.  6 Taumantis sigiana (he generously sent a couple more than ordered).  They arrived in excellent packing and all in good health.  Additionally, his communiques were quick and courteous.  I'd recommend him without hesitation.

    Back In The Game

Thanks, CA.  They're little piglets!  Hope I'm not overfeeding (gotta climb back on the learning curve).  Giving them 5 or 6 melanogasters every other day.

    Back In The Game

I just received six Taumantis sigiana from yen_saw (great job, yen - thank you). First batch in over a year. These guys are indigenous to Kenya and Tanzania and mature to a beautiful lime-green. Here are a few shots of Sanaa. He seems to like the camera very much. Siblings = Desta, Nia, Zuri...
