    Look What I Found :)

I have no experience with that species...but I really hope this is just one big misidentification.

My Dead Leaf female is about to molt to adulthood! How long will it take?

How do you know she will die when you are gone? If she's still fat, then she has enough reserves to survive for a while (idk how long you're gone for thanksgiving). Heed the advise that's been given: stop worrying. Even if there was something wrong with her, there's little you could do anyway.

keeping mantids next to each other

They probably get more stress in the wild...But you could help them out by putting something in there that they can hide under, or just separate them with an index card so they can't see each other.

Outdoor mantid with larvae in abdomen- Has anyone heard of this?

These are most certainly NOT eggs moving around... This was getting common when I was in Las Vegas working with I. oratoria. The parasitoids appear to be some sort of tachinid. What's interesting is the fact that I. oratoria are obviously introduced, so I wonder whether these tachinids are...

    Head tremors? Mantid Parkinsons??

Yeah it's quite unsettling at first. You even see their mandibles moving for no apparent reason. I like the "system check" idea.

    # of molts for S. limbata

There's actually a paper by Maxwell recently published that states that the instars are not fixed.

    Head tremors? Mantid Parkinsons??

I was wondering if anyone else saw this...I've seen these in multiple species, including my adult budwing female. Also I see it across genders and instars. I'm not sure what it is, but I've never had any health issues with those that did this. I clicked the thread knowing what you were talking...

    Tanzanian Mystery Mantis

Mmm okay. I have no experience with Ischnomantis.sp, just seen lots of pics. But it would make sense if that's what it is. Especially if their ooths look like that. Good job raising him so far. And yeah, lol it's a still from Alice in Chains' "Man in the box" music video.

mated an iris oratoria 2 months ago- why won't she lay ANYTHING?

1-take a deep breath. 2-don't put her outside in a glass container because she will fry 3-a picture would help so we can see just how fat she is. 4-Follow what everyone above has said to do and what not to do. 5-take a deep breath. If she lays, she'll lay. If not, i'm sorry for your loss but...

    soundspawn (US)

I received a pair of Orthodera novaezealandiae. Despite USPS completely dropping the ball in delivering what was supposed to be a two-day shipment, the package arrived safe and with both occupants alive and well. He offered to compensate if anything happened to the mantids even though it wasn't...

Two Mantids, Two very different appetites

A lot of time when I have mantids molt, they take small, minuscule prey for the first week or so. Then I'm able to offer them larger prey that they'd definitely be able to take. Try feeding her crickets next week or so.

    Can a clone have clones

Even if she wasn't a "clone" she would still lay an ootheca, they would just be infertile. Basically her ability to reproduce (parthenogenetic or otherwise) isn't really determined by if she laid an ooth.
