    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

Those metallyticus are stunning. Hopefully you'll get some ooths from them.

    So disappointed

I hate these kind of poor selling practices, preselling stuff before you actually have it (given these are living creatures and they may not hatch or survive etc). Then basically writing your customers off as trouble makers if they dare to ask where their order is. I'm sorry to hear about your...

    Breeding success

Here is a quick pic I got of them after he'd wrestled her to the floor.

    Breeding success

Well first step anyway, I was nervous for my male but I paired up my Miomantis paykulli yesterday. Needn't have done, he did everything right mated her 3 times and then sat in the top corner of the cage waiting patiently to go home.  So fingers crossed will get some ooths shortly.  She ate 4...

How many mantids do you have?

12 at the moment, they are either pairs or trios of Sphodromantis 'blue flash' Miomantis paykulli Ephestiasula sp Tarachodula pantherina Parasphendale agrionina About half are adult or nearly there,  so I'm already thinking about which ones I might get next. Once I've sorted out my...

    Chinese Mantids + questionable food

General rule of thumb with scorpions is usually the thin, weak clawed species have some of he most potent poison. They are very flexible and rather accurate with that tail. Even if your mantid caught and ripped it apart, it would probably only take one quick flick of the tail to take your mantis...

    Happy/sad time

Well one of my favourite mantids molted to adult this week, a male ephestiasula boxer mantid.  He looks great and is healthy/feeding well so thats the happy.  The sad is my other boxer is not there yet (not sure of the *** anyway) and of course it means the adults' days are numbered. He is a...

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

Voracious little beasts! Puts them squarely on my future want list  :)  I'm sure I read somewhere on online about them being communal, but after seeing what happened with yours at mating couldn't see it myself lol!

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

    Are the eremiaphila communal?

    Idolomantis/Metallyticus/Eremiaphila/etc.

Beautiful, different species. Gutting that that male did that though, at least you've already got some nymphs hatched out. Can't wait to see some pictures of the splendidus as adults.

    New arrivals

I am in the uk just to clarify but I got my two from Andrew mitchell. I actually didn't look for them, I was having a look at a few species and happened to see them available so took the opportunity. If I wasn't also getting the budwings and boxers which came from bugzuk, I would've got three...

    New arrivals

    buying feeders in uk

Just a quick question for those in the uk, I have a few new nymphs arriving later this week and I wanted to ask about recommendations for best places to get drosophila cultures. I believe I will need one or two for one of my new species, until they are a bit bigger.

    couple of pictures

It was feeding today and I managed to take a couple of quick pictures of some of my mantids.  Not the best quality, they were just snaps on my phone under poor lighting, so they have ended up a little washed out, will have to take some better ones when i have more time. Anyway, first is my...

    couple of things I've learned

Even when provided with twigs etc to hang from sometimes a mantid will choose to moult close to the floor, hence the slightly bent wings on my newly adult female miomantis. Sphrodo's are GREEDY to the point where there is rarely even a scrap of food insect left anywhere after feeding. ...

    new mantis advice

well all are housed, just simple setup for now (I like easier to keep clean and hygienic) paper towel on the bottom with a stick to hang from and very light spray of water as I thought they might be a bit dehydrated after shipping.  After I sorted them all I popped a small cricket in with each...

    new mantis advice

Well my parcel arrived yesterday, I had to work late though and had to collect it from the post office later. So it wasn't until nearly midnight that I actually got them out the box.  But after a quick check all 9 mantis were alive and well. One of the rhombodera extensicollis had moulted in...
