This is one of the many "prototype" builds I once used on the Idolomantis. It really does a great job with containing heat and humidity.  Great job on the tutorial bro, I always forget about doing this while I'm in the middle of my builds... probably should break that habit. :D  

You can go to Wal-Mart or hobby lobby and find many mesh like cloths and poly mesh.  I'm using an old hand me down jersey from a friend in my larger idolo setup.... and it works perfect for the needy species. Invest in a hot glue gun and glue sticks, it'll be your tool of the trade in this...

You can use the craft paints at Wal-Mart that sell for 98 cents. They're all safe, pet and child friendly. but I would always seal (clear coat) whatever your painting. Paint brand: Apple barn. Sealant: one safe route is modpodge, I use the matte finish type when I'm building my beardies new...

Yep. I used to dab a bit of honey on the crickets.

It's probably best to steer clear of the carrots. I use basically everything besides carrots and meats for all my feeders and have had no issues. You do not have to feed your mantids honey.. but you can if you wish. It's moreso a treat than anything, but can help with treating sickly mantids...

Yeah they'll get all kinds of beautiful colors at the adult shed, or a week after rather. But most the females I've kept usually stay white until then... where as most the males I've owned have been darkish, almost a burnt color.

She's really pale :D   ... I don't know why but all the females I've had seen to end up like that. The males usually end up darkening a bit.
