    Combined Feeder/Cleaner/Plant Cutting Culture

That is what I expected, but 100% of the adults and nymphs buried themselves despite having several other places to hide. Our colony is only about 15-20 strong right now, and there is no lack of available space under the hide or moss or leaves. The container is maybe 16"x24", with about 2" of...

    Ohaple's Vivarium Setups

We finally got around to rearranging furniture. Now they are kept on a box-style organizer, which does a much better job at hiding the cables and giving us storage for the accessories and feeders. I also found an extra thermostat and some better lighting for the ghosts, so the whole setup is...

    Combined Feeder/Cleaner/Plant Cutting Culture

We kept looking after them this weekend to see how it was going. We added a heat pad to keep them more in the mid 70s. Our biggest surprise is how much the roaches are burrowing. We thought they had somehow escaped until we dug in and found them inside the soil. Even giving them places to hide...

    Ohaple's Vivarium Setups

It takes a few hours usually. If we see it over 90% we take the lid off to allow it to come down more quickly. Our screen-top vivariums stabilize in less than a half hour due to the significant ventilation. We usually mist twice per day, spraying on the substrate and walls of the enclosure. With...

Praying Mantis Kid's book- pictures needed!

I think thats a great list. You will get lots of suggestions for things to add, but your list is good as is. The only section I think is interesting to kids, but missing from your list (unless it is one of the three defense mechanisms) is camouflage.

    Combined Feeder/Cleaner/Plant Cutting Culture

We got everything in last night and set it up to contain the spare isopods and banana roaches. We added lots of springtails, a few dwarf white isopods, 5 giant canyon isopods, and 15-20 banana roaches (maybe 6 are adult?) We made a normal substrate to help hold moisture, and then added leaf...

    Ohaple's Vivarium Setups

We got the new feeders and isopods last night. The giant canyon isopods are great. Being a little larger, you can usually spot one or two trying to hide. We added 5 of them to Carl's enclosure just in case he decides to start snacking on them, we have 5 extras that will hopefully be breeding...

    Peacock Mantis time between molts?

Now that I see it, its obvious. Thanks for pointing it out. I think our h. majuscula is also sub-adult.

    Peacock Mantis time between molts?

Thanks. I will try to get a good photo of his wingbuds tonight to inspect for myself. Thanks for sharing the information!

Praying Mantis Kid's book- pictures needed!

Good advice. I started writing a book for youtube creators to teach them about the system several years ago. Every subject soon became its own chapter and I ran out of steam about 100 pages in. If I had been more concise and selective about subjects, I may have actually completed the project.

    Peacock Mantis time between molts?

Is it visible in the photo I posted? I haven't taken him out to inspect since his molt, but it wasn't obvious to me when looking at his leg. I'm not sure I know what to look for. Here is another photo of him. I was tinkering with macro, but had troubles with the depth of field.

Praying Mantis Kid's book- pictures needed!

With regard to the captive care information, I think it would be nice to have a box dedicated to "typical" care with  a note that each species is different and research should be done before getting one. I agree its not helpful to get into the details of care, but some information would be nice...

    Peacock Mantis time between molts?

Probably a stupid question, but how do you know? I haven't been able to find a reliable resource to tell how many instars a species or gender has. The seller said that he was L5 when shipped, and so he should be L6 now. Ive seen information that female ghosts are adult at L8 and some other...

    Ohaple's Vivarium Setups

We added Carl to his vivarium and reorganized everything. The peacock will go in his enclosure soon as well, we just wanted to give him a couple days after his molt. I have been happy to see that the powder orange isopods hide on the stalks of the philodendron and mini pixie, so they are at...

Praying Mantis Kid's book- pictures needed!

I can try to get a photo for you, but ours are only L4 and I think you would be better off with an adult for the cover. EDIT: Here is the best photo I could get, but an adult would be more impressive I think

Praying Mantis Kid's book- pictures needed!

I know this is geared at children, but it would have been a good read even as an adult. I had to read many hours of forum posts to get most of the information you have here. Most guides start off assuming you know more than most newbies do. I see you have photos of the male and female tendora...

    Heating arrangement?

That's kind, but probably an overstatement. I haven't dealt with heating for more than a month. I like to think that I am good at researching and problem solving, but I don't have extensive experience in this field. I only suggested the heat cable to keep costs low. Usually one cable is cheaper...
