    Hello from Oregon, US

Hi, my name is Shawn. I have been raising mantids most of my life and took a break for about 5 or so years, finally back as of a few months ago and have been rebuilding my collection since. Glad to see a lot of old friends still keeping mantids!

    food for orchid mantids

I haven't tried waxworms as a primary food source. I have used them as a temp source when I had no other food for a couple days waiting for flies or crickets to arrive (back when I used crickets). I would also sometimes let them turn to moths and used the moths as feeders. I would be very...

    jseng

I purchased a couple orchids from jseng and have been very pleased with the entire transaction. Good communication, fast shipping, everything packed well. Even kept in touch to make sure everything was still going fine a couple weeks later. Highly recommended.

    Dusting fruit flies

I tried it for awhile but didn't notice much difference except with a couple species (mainly orchids and other "flower" types). They seemed a bit more active and colorful, but I didn't have any group to compare them to. I just started keeping mantids again, but I do plan to dust the flies with...

How to Have more Feeding Diversity For My Orchids?

Moths should be just fine for now. I would get some other food in there when possible... even crickets from the pet store every now and then would be good. I have never seen blue bottle flies at pet stores, but you can usually find them locally at fish bait shops. I am unaware of any...

How to Have more Feeding Diversity For My Orchids?

Houseflies and blue bottle flies are really good for them and pretty easy and cheap to come by. I used to sell housefly and blue bottle pupae when I kept mantids. You just keep them in a small container in the fridge and take some out and put a few in the mantid containers every other day and...

    WANTED: subadult male I. diabolica

So yea... I am 1 male short now that one of my males decided he wanted to be different and try something new... like molting from a branch 3 inches from the ground instead of the lid. Ugh. If anyone could spare a male please let me know. I am sure we can work something out. DeShawn

    MantisKingdom?

Well, the databases are easy to deal with, just time consuming being I have to transfer 3 different databases and convert them to 1... twice (test server first). Pain in the butt, but it is all done now. I actually went with site5. Glad to hear im not the only one with speed issues here. I...

    MantisKingdom?

Hey all! I am still around, I just rarely visit this site as I can't be on the computer at work as much anymore (took a different position awhile back). Just so everyone knows, my stock is always up to date as to what is available to the public. I get allot of emails from people requesting...

    Daily Routine

I handle mine all the time, especially when they are larger. They all have their own distinct personalities. Some seem to like being held, others want nothing to do with you, others just don't seem to care either way. I also use to feed them by hand, but after a few run-ins with some mantids...

Still worried about overfeeding your mantis ? ........

Overfeeding in itself isn't necessarily what causes a mantis to go boom. It is when they are nice and fat and then fall. Humpty dumpty type of deal. Or, if a nymph damaged its abdomen and it is not fully healed, and THEN it gets stuffed it will have a higher chance of oozing. Nothing really...

    Mantis diarrhea

You can get a spray at www.livemonarch.com that helps with your caterpillars. I would imagine it would be useful for many insects. I used them on my wahlbergii when I was having a problem with infections and it helped quite a bit.

    Mantis diarrhea

That is very useful information. There are lots of things that could effect crickets, but this one is a biggy. I stopped using crickets myself for awhile, but have since learned how to prevent/minimize the problems with them. I put a bit of info on my site about it (haven't posted it live...

Paypal advice...anyone? (Those USING paypal may want a look)

I used to hate paypal for something similar. People would send me money, get the product, and then claim their account was "hacked", someone else used their account without their permission, or they never received what they paid for. Being I was selling digital goods at the time, there was no...

    Few Photos

Hey Yen, I uploaded the old totalmantis.com website at www.mantisphotos.com. You can find the guide to sexing orchids at the bottom of the orchids caresheet, or just click HERE It is pretty tough to *** them at L2. It gets much easier at L3, and as Sheldon stated, pretty obvious at L4. After...

    Mantis diarrhea

Depending on her size/age and how strong she is now, she could possibly get over it. It is not a death sentence 100%. I have sent you a pm.
