    Mantis diarrhea

It is for sure the crickets. There is a disease that crickets get that can affect various other insects and reptiles. As Christian stated, it can also affect flies and other insects, although it is far more rare. I have had flies infect my mantids 1 time ever. It can also infect fruitflies...

    strange H coronatus behaviour?

Could be stress, but I have only had that happen when they eat something bad (almost always a bad cricket). Does the brown stuff stink pretty bad? If it hasn't gotten too bad already, it can be stopped by changing/cleaning the container everytime she throws up, as well as feeding her a...

    Ooth laying

I got those sticks from Walmart in the craft section. They are called Jumbo sticks, and are just big "popsicle" sticks. I cut the top and bottom just a tad to make them flat. They are perfect for smaller species. The other sticks in the back right are wooden slats. I had to cut them a bit...

    Ooth laying

I have noticed that often times before my mantids lay, they will bend their abdomens toward the surface (see photo below). They start this anywhere from a couple days to a few hours before actually laying. Sometimes they are not interested in eating. Some species walk around restlessly as if...

    Orchid ooth - Inside

I apologize for the crappy pic. I will take better ones later. You can see a couple eggs have developed inside. Of the exposed eggs, I can see at least 1/3rd of them have clearly developed nymphs, or at least have dark objects inside. The front piece of the ooth broke off shortly after...

    South American Acanthops Nymphs

Moved - I would seperate them at L2 if you can't do it any sooner. This species is pretty rare in captivity, and I personally would want to keep as many nymphs alive as possible. As for care, I have only had them once, and I misted them every night before bed, and temps around 75-80°F. The...

    making an orchid pink ?

I have tried so many different things, but have never really found anything that made a huge difference in color. They always seem to come out different. For instance, I had 6 female orchid mantids, all kept under the same conditions of 75-80°F, 60-65% humidity, and fed the same food. Out of...

You looking for clear cups or does it matter?

    delicup humidity

Or you can skip all of that and just not worry about humidity at all. Just make sure your mantids are fed regularly and if you absolutely can't resist giving them water, then mist the container once a day or so.

    Orchid ooth - Inside

The ooth fell on its own, and the eggs were already exposed. I put another female in a wooden cage this time, and the ooth came out perfect (thank god!).

    Orchid ooth - Inside

One of my orchid females decided to lay on the slick screen instead of the nice sticks I provided for her. I was pretty upset to lay say the least, but on the positive side, it is a great opportunity for the mantid community to get a glimpse of what it looks like on the inside of an orchid...
