    Species number 2!

Thank you! I really hate crickets. Both my fruit fly cultures crashed the day after the violins arrived. Each violin had one cricket a few days later when I couldn't get more fruit flies. Really glad they are on BBs now.  And the crickets now get to wait to be fed to some centipede newborns.

    Species number 2!

Hey all I got a few centipedes that have been taking a lot of my arthropod attention. Most of my Ghosts are doing great except for the one mismolt that didnt make it.  I came across someone on FB recently that had a few Gongy ooths hatch. So when they got to L4, I had 4 shipped to me. This...

    Mismolt?

    Mismolt?

So one of my female ghosts is molting into an adult. Her wings are spread and it appears she is nearly finished but shes been in the same position for few hours now. When I get close she moves her arms and two legs. It looks like her terminal legs may be stuck. I tried taking pics but the...

    Hissing Neyteri and Ateyo

Nice looking hissers! The horns on your male are BIG! Any chance they’re hybrids?  I had to stop keeping the hissers in my bedroom.... They’d get so active at night, I’d wake up hearing them moving around and hissing.  Are you gonna let them breed or are they separated?

    Communal and mixed instars

I’ll put two or three males together and keep them well fed. Thank you!

    Communal and mixed instars

I have 3 subadult ghosts and one adult, all brown. I have 5 l5/l6 ghosts on the way in various colors. Can I keep the males together regardless of instar? What about the females? My students are sooooo into all the bugs, having an closure with a few different colors of the same species would be...

Looking for a definitive answer on Empusidae and crickets as feeders

Can you harvest and culture your own flies when it warms up?  I really doubt anyone has done a comprehensive study of feeding  empusids crickets vs flies. If all you have access too is crickets, I’m sure the empusids would at least appreciate the offering of a cricket than offering nothing. ...
