    Hello from Massachusetts!

Howdy, welcome aboard. Lovely little Idolomantis. They are quite interesting, I recently got a few of them, can't wait to see their colours as they grow up, mine are little dark black l-1. I'm not sure what yours are, but it's at least l-3 maybe l-4 I'd guess. You may want to add thin pencil...

Attracting a male outside with a female

Congrats on the new mantis:) Love those big, beady, black eyes. I hope you can find her a mate. It sure would be nice if we could ultrasound mantids to see if they are they are fertile..

    Howdy from Florida :D

Hi ezeleolos, welcome. I liked your ideas and nice pictures. It's nice to be able to let our pets roam, eh? I used to have a pink toe tarantula that wandered my home. It was cool, he'd be spotted every few days crawling across the walls. I also happen to have a little scorpion roaming my bedroom,

    Miomantis paykullii ootheca

Yeah, Serle. These guys are so small! I might just feed them springtails for now cause it looks like the melanogaster's could eat the tiny nymphs...heh Connor, goodluck with those scutigera:)

    Miomantis paykullii ootheca

Thanks guys, I'm having a lot of fun with mantids. It's really hard to resist the urge to get more, but since I have over a hundred now I'm gonna try to cool it for now. I just spent a bunch o bucks on some good sized colonies of wax worms, horn worms, silkworms and BSFL, and ordered 10lbs of...

    Miomantis paykullii ootheca

I was just tending to my herd of Idolomantis nymphs today when I noticed another of my ootheca was in the process of hatching! I love seeing them crawl out:)

One mantid born from Oothica Nov 29th?

I'm no expert but for the sake of argument.. if mantids generally drink from rain water, which is naturally distilled water, then mineral free water such as r/o would be closer to natural than other sources. I do know that different organisms like carnivorous plants actually require very low...

    Idolomantis hatch

Well, I think they are finished hatching with a total of 71. Five of them never got their legs separated and seemed to be tangled in silk. I tried to save them but only got two of them free and they are in a seperate little cup so I can watch him. I hope they start eating soon they don't seem...

    Interesting article

Hey Gongylus, cool article. It lists several species, but seems its mostly Chinese and European mantis doing the catching, however the part I found surprising was the claim that a miomantis caught a bird:o

    Lepidoptera

Greetings all, I have been looking for different feeders specifically large/flying kinds, and was curious if any of you culture moths or butterflies? I know a few of you grow wax worms, silkworms and hornworms, but anyone have experience with others? Are there any that are particilarly...

    Can a damaged ooth hatch

I was starting to worry that they weren't warm enough so I cranked the heat up a bit in the room they are in yesterday. Also started wondering if they were dry so I gave the ooth a heavy misting. When I checked on them today I noticed something unusual... here's a few shots I took. Apologies if...

    Fly Pupae in Canada?

Well I thought I found a source or two but they aren't responding to my email so I guess breeding my own is necessary..which will be nice once I get it right, but doesn't seem as easy as just ordering em. Teamonger, thanks for the link and for throwing that nice guide together for us. I read it...

    Fly Pupae in Canada?

Hi, does anyone know of a Canadian source for medium sized flying feeders? Green bottle, blue bottle or house fly pupa would be great. Just thought I'd check before trying to grow my own indoors...

    Can a damaged ooth hatch

That's a good question.  I don't know, I been getting a temperature though... I think I might be developing the dreaded mantid fever :o   But seriously, I hear they have 25-80 ish per ooth. So probably that many.

    Can a damaged ooth hatch

Well I don't want to count my mantids before they've hatched! Although, if I succeed at raising them I should have some extra.

    Can a damaged ooth hatch

Hey Connor, I tried to get a good shot of it. Oh and it is an Idolomantis diabolica ootheca.

    Can a damaged ooth hatch

Hello guys n gals, I received an ooth today and it is cracked/broken near the top part where it is attached to a stick.  So what I'm wondering is can this still hatch or will they have likely dried out already? I don't know how deep the crack is or if it just happened during transit but...
