    L4 feeding adivise

The main reason I don't is that it tends to be a bit pricier than going to the store, and I really don't like to wait TT it's also been a pretty dang chilly winter thus far (we got four inches of snow just the other day, a bit of a rarity) and blah blah I am a minor blah blah I don't always get...

Lost my fruit flies because of a cold front. How can I feed my mantis until they repopulate?

If the pet store isn't too much of a hassle, it'll probably be faster (and a bit more economic?) than ordering online. If they have them in the tubes, you could always buy several and put them in a larger cup. Honestly,  I would think the temperature dip should be lengthening their lifespan...

    L4 feeding adivise

so Olivia, my popa spurca, finally molted again!! Hurray!!! I've been feeding her loads and keeping her nice and warm, so it actually didn't take nearly as long as I had anticipated. It's so pleasing to see the results :^) This also means, though,  that she actually shot up in size quite a...

Lost my fruit flies because of a cold front. How can I feed my mantis until they repopulate?

Technically ants could work fine, but I wouldn't recommend it. There's no real way to know what those ants have eaten, or what they could be carrying. Are you near a chain pet store like Petsmart? I know they sell melanogaster flies in little tubes that can last for a week or so. Local stores...

    p. wahlbergi has died, and I'm concerned for my other mantis.

Thanks. Gosh, it makes me scared to ever try again... Maybe one day :/ Oliver is pretty active and seems completely fine. I really don't want to waste perfectly good flies, and if they're not bothering him I guess I'll keep them.  I think you might be right. It probably didn't help she was...

    p. wahlbergi has died, and I'm concerned for my other mantis.

Last night I went to check on my mantises, and found Sylvia on her back on the floor of her cup. I admit I panicked a bit, and went to delicately pick her up and hold her. There were some movements, including some pulsing in the abdomen later on? But she didn't make it. I looked at her favorite...

    Thoughts on Blephorapis mendica?

That's good news then! I suppose I'm just a bit gullible, haha. I only like mantisplace for the cheap little enclosures, so I wasn't sure abt the actual insects :^P thank you both!

    Thoughts on Blephorapis mendica?

Here's the lil guy I'm talking about: https://www.mantisplace.com/product-page/blepharopis-mendica I remember seeing this mantis mentioned somewhere a few weeks ago, and now this place happens to have them on sale! It claims this is the first time they've been available in the US, are they...

    biOrbAir terrarium?

As neat as the enclosure is, I personally wouldn't be comfortable keeping a mantis in it. From that picture the only viable option, I would think, is to put loads of sticks and twigs in and only keep a particularly small mantis. Given the humidity challenges though, the mantis likely wouldn't...

    Funniest mantis expirience

maybe a late reply, lolol, but once I mistakenly bumped my spiny flower's bum and she did about 18 consecutive backflips across the floor :^D i felt a little bad for spooking her, but it was more hilarious than anything, haha

    L2 Twig mantis care

No, I believe the scientific name is Popa spurca. As far as molting goes, the skin was a bit crumpled, but he looks perfectly fine. I've decided to keep him in the lil cup until his next molt, so i can be certain he's eating- he's kind of a garbage hunter, haha. Much less focused than my spiny...

    L2 Twig mantis care

Hello! I recently acquired my second mantis, a twig nymph! I was looking for a ghost mantis at my local reptile convention, but the vendor that typically sold them wasn't there this time around ;-; However, another vendor was there as it always was, selling less... conventional? Species. I don't...

How do you prompt your mantis to crawl onto your hand?

I would blow lightly and nudge mine's butt a lil, but she seems to be at a point where she doesn't even need prompting? Sometimes it even seems like she's asking to crawl up!! If it's a smaller mantis, maybe try feeding them on your hand a few times. They'll warm up to it in time.

How did YOU get into mantids?

Yea, I think that's all of it. I think they're scared of it getting out...? I don't quite understand it, haha, but they seem to actually kind of like the mantis since it's still small and sweet looking :^) Couldn't pay em to feed or hold it, tho :^P

How did YOU get into mantids?

I'm really into tarantulas, but as a minor I've got to yield to the parents TT One day a tarantula enthusiast I followed on Youtube posted a video about their Giant African mantis, talking about how fascinating it was as the mantis followed the camera around with those big bug eyes (<3). I...

    Feeding an L2 spiny flower

@Sarah K aaah okay! I might just do that in the future. I just worry he'll have trouble finding enough, he doesn't seem to like leaving the lid and the fake plant I put in for climbing space has a lot of nooks n crannies. I'll just keep an eye on him :^p thanks!!

    Feeding an L2 spiny flower

So I just got my spiny flower nymph yesterday, and I'm realizing that I'm not 100% certain how much to feed it! I've seen a lot of conflicting information online, so I'm asking here. In the past 24 hours he's had four wingless fruit flies- three last night and one just now. I'm keeping him in...
