    Loops Collection Thread

I'm picking up a fly and roach culture tmrw. My local shop was out yesterday. My ants will also eat the flies and roaches, so it'll work out.

    Loops Collection Thread

Thank you. And thats ok!  don't have plans to mate him unless i can find him a female. Right now his specific duty is to watch the ant colonies. He'll stay out with me while im working on them, and he'll be allowed to take any ant that escape. Which brings me to a new question. The basic mantis...

    Loops Collection Thread

Well. I've been slow at acquiring mantids. I started building my enclosure for the group of ghosts, and got carried away with my ant colonies. Yesterday i bought my first Phyllocrania Paradoxa Ghost Mantis at L4. First off, these guys are sooooo much cooler in person, and even cooler when...

    Roaches living together

This is the info i was looking for. I figured this would be the case, so i prolly won't go with any roaches, but mainly ground crew such as Spring tails, pills bugs, and worms.

    Ants with my mantids?

Im still on the search. It was great weather for anting when i originally posted this, but since then has been snowing. As soon as i get something (even some workers) going, i'll update this.

    Amazing Abnormality!

    I completely believed this.

    Build/Inventory section for all keepers.

Here's another reference to what i'm trying to accomplish. I joined an Ant forum and they have a section similar to this. http://www.formiculture.com/forum/13-ant-keeping-journals/ I guess Build/Inventory was a bad choice in words. But i'm hoping that by now you guys get were im trying to get at.

    Build/Inventory section for all keepers.

Also, as i progress as a forum member, I'm finding different Mantis threads similar to Cosbys and Lames. Those could be moved to the section as well. They don't have a pre-existing guideline on the original post, but they're pretty mature and already hold the information im trying to dedicate...

    Ants with my mantids?

I have not. I don't even have any mantids right now. This tank is going to be an overall project. I'm eager to get my first though.

    Ants with my mantids?

access is still going to be key. the normal open side of the 20g is being replaced with 3 sections of equal sized glass. the top and bottom being fixed with the center one attached with magnets for easy removal. As for the ants, their entrance will be in the bottom fixed pane of glass. this way...

    Ants with my mantids?

Here's the idea im thinking. Bear with me since this is a quick sketch. This isn't the exact layout, but just a rough cut. Also, the enclosure is a rimless 20g set on it's small side. Formicarium being the front Viewing side. This center divide is a troth, just for visual aspect. The...

    Ants with my mantids?

Thank you cosby. I was hoping to section off part of the main tree branch going up the center of the tank. I would have sealed it off completely (in the wood as well by removing the section, and putting acrylic between the two sections so the ants cant burrow through) so the ants can enjoy part...

    Ants with my mantids?

Aww man, that really cuts down my idea for the formicarium. They would be completely sealed from the mantids via a thin piece of molded acrylic over the top and completely sealed all the way around. I was hoping to do the area underneath, and an anthill above the substrate. The acrylic top would...

    Ants with my mantids?

Upon building my stand for the vivarium, i came up with a rather unique idea. I've always been fascinated by ants as well. I'd like to implement a hand made ant formicarium (Similar to the example) into the bottom of my tank. It would go infront of the substrate under the surface with parts...

    Build/Inventory section for all keepers.

I guess it does seem like the threads seem a bit dead ended or incomplete, but they still house a lot of information. I've personally spent plenty of time looking through those forums for unique ways things are done, or how one person setup their 50g breeder over anothers. The idea of having a...

    Build/Inventory section for all keepers.

Looking over it, what i'm trying to do might be a little advanced for this hobby. But that doesn't mean it won't work! I'm hoping this will inspire beginner and advanced hobbyist to do more then just keep a mantis in an enclosure. I want to be able to help others along the journey as well as...

    Roaches living together

I wasn't planning on adding less food, just want to make sure they won't continually breed until they have more family then food. I guess culling would work. With this particular vivarium setup, it'll have all different species of bugs, predator and prey. You think the mantids will play a big...
