    Glass tank cleaner?

@Prayingmantisqueen with that setup, you should probably clean it at least once a month, or every two months, at the very least. Basic rule of thumb that I use is this: if there are visible pieces of mantis waste (their poop) it is probably time to clean it. I don’t followed a strict schedule...

    Glass tank cleaner?

Yeah, that would probably be alright. As long as the cleaner is safe for animals, it should be good. Still, I would use only as much as you need to, and no more. Just a safety precaution.  Honestly, though, normal glass cleaner should be fine, as long as you use it sparingly. I bought a 30 gal...

    Making orchid mantis pink

[Edit: just realized I responded with my original, other account, so I guess my secret alter ego is exposed ?] Could it be the stress of shipping that bleaches the mantids? I was thinking about that today. Because mine did the same thing. They were both very pink when I got them, but in a...

    Glass tank cleaner?

I wouldn’t suggest using any kind of chemical glass cleaner, for the simple reason that it is indeed toxic. Water/vinegar should be fine, but I personally just use water, and some soap if I need it. I am also using spring water, so that might explain some of it.  If your hard water is the only...

    Chinese adults, male and female

Not as exotic as some of the other types, but I have a bunch of adult Chinese mantids for sale, $11 each, or 2 for $20. Shipping is $14 for priority. Male and female are available upon request. I have reared these since L2 or L3, and they are all very active and healthy.  Send me a PM if you...

Chinese mantis - Not interested in food since molt from L5 to L6

Those are pretty good for them. Recently, I’ve been giving mine Dubia roaches, and they love them. They key is handing them to the mantis upside down, exposing the softer part of the roach. Basically the same as wax worms and mealworms, as far as I can tell, just much bigger

    Fruit fly culture consistency

Thanks @Predatorhousepet For the very detailed advice. I’m hoping to eventually move to a premade medium mix, but due to college starting soon, I’m a little pressed for funds right now. But I did take your advice, and added almost double the water amount. The medium is now more like what I...

    Fruit fly culture consistency

@MantisGirl13 Thanks! I’m letting it sit overnight, so I have some time to adjust the consistency if I need to @Synapze it doesn’t move at all. It is exactly like normal, out of the box mashed potatoes. The only way to flatten it is with a spoon

    Fruit fly culture consistency

I just bought a small vial of D. Hydei at the pet store, and wanted to give them a bigger home, so they’ll have more space.  Ive made the media for them, I followed Orin’s recipe (basic, potato recipe) and I’m wondering about the consistency. It looks exactly like mashed potatoes. Is this what...

    .

I saw this video a while ago by a British dude, where he showed how to build a fly keeping thingy. It’s a pretty cool design. Once my mantids get big enough to eat flies, I’m building one just like it.  Heres the link:

    Young Orchids food?

Update (probably final)  both mantids are are doing great, the female is still very healthy and active, and catching her own food.  The male, on the other hand, is still very keen on me feeding him. I was able to catch some flies/moths, but he isn’t even interested. He only eats the food that...

    Young Orchids food?

Thanks @MantisGirl13 im going to take your advice with the sheet idea. The thing is, though, it’s been raining every evening for the past couple nights. But as soon as it stops, I’ll definitely give it a shot.

    Young Orchids food?

Update: after last night,  the male seems to be doing just fine. I woke up at 4:30 this morning, just to check on him. When I turned the light on, he immediately started moving around. I took him out, and tried feeding him. He instantly started eating on the guts I gave him.  Everything seems...

    Young Orchids food?

Yeah, I’m really hoping so. The two seem to be doing fine, especially after I gave them some water. I only ordered two, and I got an extra, so I’m upset, but not too much, since I didn’t end up paying for it anyway.

    Young Orchids food?

Thanks @Predatorhousepet Ive been able to feed one of the males, and the female is eating some wild-caught prey by herself. The other male wasn’t strong enough to eat anything, so it passed. I am going to get some cultures from a pet store on Monday, and until then, I’m catching food wild.

    Young Orchids food?

Once I am able to get some, that is my plan. I was going to culture them from the same individual who sold me the orchids, but they perished in shipping

    Young Orchids food?

There are three stores near me, but I’ve checked, and they only sell crickets and mealworms. I think I’ll order some online.

    Young Orchids food?

I know. It was supposed to be no more than 9 days, and he sent me some fly culture as well, but they got lost or something in shipping, and they were delayed. The fly culture was... let’s just say expired. They are very lively, however, so I think I have a little time, but I obviously want to...
