    A good life

Thanks Mantid Z! He certainly sounds like a promising breeder and I'm going to get on his email list for a couple potential future species I might get. I also found another breeder highly rated in the feedback section here named Rebecca who has a site called Mantisplace. I really like the look...

That's what I thought and am hoping for! I can't wait to get my next species or couple species and show you guys! :)

Thanks River Dane! And Oh wow that's incredible! I'll keep an eye on their stock! That would be a gorgeous addition to have one day. I'll go check out the feedback section too as I found another site selling Polyspilota Griffinii nymphs that look gorgeous. I think after checking the feedback on...

Awesome! He sure seems to have a lot of beautiful species and I hope his collection only keeps growing :)

Excellent! I like the sound of that and I know if I get younger ones like these I can spend more time raising them :)

Awesome! Lee was a mebranacea and he turned out excellently so I wouldn't mind getting another in addition to something else. I'm not sure of the breeder's name but the website is called mantidkingdom.

That's too bad. I hope more people start to breed them eventually! I also saw this thing called a Javan gold mantis I would love to see in captivity one day. In any case I definitely don't plan on getting Chinese mantis egg cases for releasing as I know they can become problematic but I'm sure...

Thanks Synapze! He was completely gone this morning so there's no need, poor guy. I am starting to look for other species though. I found a breeder's website where I can get on a waitlist for several neat looking species. They have more Hierodula Membranaceas and the budwing Mantis looks really...

Thanks MantisGirl13! Unfortunately no he's my only one. I'll look around for other species though and of course other's of his kind. I think come next spring or summer I'll get some mantis egg cases for whatever species they are and hatch a bunch for the garden. I'm sure even the tiny newborns...

Thanks little Mantis! I certainly think he probably did. I know I enjoyed caring for him quite a bit :)

    A good life

Update guys! I don't know if he's quite dead as when I went to remove him I got some response and there's leg and arm movement but I know some insects such as roaches can move their legs for days after death due to residual brain activity or something. I think more or less though he could be...

    A good life

Well guys. Unfortunately Shandong Lee, my giant Asian mantis and the reason I joined the forum, has passed. It's a been a bit over 2 months since his final molt on July 15th and I guess he's just completed his natural life cycle. I knew he was going to go today. He had been slowing down rapidly...

    Help for my cousin?

I was thinking as much :). I should still probably take him out and mess with him a little though since I don't know how long he'll be around at this point.

    Help for my cousin?

I think he can see fine given the way he looks at everything and knows when something is in front of him. He watches food but his appetite is slowing down though. Sometimes he'll take things from hand but it seems to depend on his mood. It's been a while that's for sure.

    Help for my cousin?

That's great! She'll definitely be happy to hear it. It's a shame with males though. It makes me think about my giant asian mantis Lee, who turned out to be male even though I initially thought female. I don't know how much longer he has. His final molt was in late July. He never has been active...

    Help for my cousin?

Well, if I recall correctly from what I've heard, in many species males often have more than 6 abdominal segments and females have 6 or less. From what we could see at the time we counted 6 so I'd say there's a fair chance we have a female.

    Help for my cousin?

True! :)  we can probably get a better picture one of these days but fortunately from the sound of it the mantis (whatever type it is) is doing well. She has a nice new setup and is active. Before we gave her to my cousin we even witnessed her take down a cricket like a dinosaur.

    Help for my cousin?

Here's a picture she sent me! It's a little blurry but she's sort of a rusty pink/reddish brown color.

    Help for my cousin?

Awesome! Is care pretty much the same as most species?
