    "The Flip" Newb

When you say "flip" I assume you're talking about pre-molt positions that Tarantulas take when molting? Mantids do not have such a flashy signal that they are molting as you will learn- they can be kind of sneaky. Your best warning signs are keeping track of when the last molt was which will...

    the gongy desert!

Thanks @LamboMantisMan23 - no problem whatsoever. I'd much rather be educated than provide suboptimal care for an animal. Like you said this setup as I posted it was not ideal at all for this species as I painfully learned (I lost 2 of my 5 nymphs). I've revised it quite a lot since though and I...

    Gongy troubles

Hm, interesting. This morning I went ahead and replaced the top mesh in their cage with something much smaller/finer akin to woven screen (minus the woven part) so I feel pretty confident I've eliminated the chance for any accidental falls. I have been misting only the tillandsias every 2-3 days...

    Gongy troubles

I started with 5, so my two losses brings me to 3.... I am crossing my fingers for no more losses

    Gongy troubles

I got them from DeShawn (I would never blame him for this though, they arrived super nicely packed and seemingly very health looking and active) about ~L3 I think, they are pretty small. I kept oddly finding them on the ground like they had fallen? But I've never had this issue with that plastic...

    Gongy troubles

Hey all, was looking for advice from anyone with experiences raising Gongylus gongylodes (Violin mantis)... Is mortality rates for the nymphs high? I got a batch of 5 a couple weeks ago and lost one about a week and a half ago. Just found it on the floor of the cage in very poor condition and it...

    the gongy desert!

Thanks! That background I bought from VivariumWorks but some crafty types can DIY using carved foam and drybrushing.

    the gongy desert!

My new desert setup for gongys, with a crew of feigning beetles who live below  :P Beetles seem to enjoy the leftovers magically raining from above.... https://i.imgur.com/Ycr1uR0.gifv

    Phyllocrania paradoxa

Question on this- If the female successfully pairs in the first month, will her ooths several months later be fertile, or do they need recent pairings to continue to produce fertile ooths?

    Patty (MantidsGalore.com)

Ordered a single brave little orchid nymph and it showed up safe and very healthy looking, also the fly pupa I ordered hatched in short order. A+ on shipping, speed, and quality- will come back in the future.

    rant's photos

My herd of ghosts is working on molting this week and they like to hang out at the top together. My two females are 1 instar apart at the moment and they are standing right next to each other so I thought it was a neat photo. The difference of ~one week and one instar (L5 / L6). She is almost...

    Exo Terra Horror Stories ?

Dont really have any "bad" experience with mine so far but one thing I found out for sure is that they do NOT hold fruitflies. I tried a multitude of countermeasures but still got a lot of escapees. Work around I found is to just wait till the mantis can eat houseflies to house it in them or...

    USMANTIS CraigBaker

Been contemplating posting this for a while but thought might as well just so the information is out there. I seem to have had a poor experience with this seller. I ordered a mantis on 10/26/2017 and was eager to get into the hobby. However a full week later I did not hear anything, no shipment...

    Pics of Your Enclosure

Just a heads up about those halogen lights, they get VERY hot so you will need to position them at least ~6-10 inches away from the enclosure. If you dont need too much heat I think you can get away with just a CFL bulb or something

How many fruit flies for L3 ghosts?

I have a batch of L3 ghosts right now and they are happily wolfing down Hydei fruitflies, so you could up the prey size. I have them in a large group enclosure and I keep ample amounts of flies in with them at all times- I don't think they overeat as they quit when they are looking plump...

Need 3rd enclosure & who should go where

Should be fine for it's whole life, try to be minimal with the substrate/decoration in it though to keep a nice open space for it to molt.
