    Alternating colors?

A while ago I had an orchid mantis who had alternating yellow/pink on each side. Has anyone had an orchid or any other mantis with different colors on each side? Can anyone offer an explaination for the coloring?

    Can you crossbreed mantids?

I think their was one time where fertile hybrids were produced. Before I had joined the forum I did quite a bit of lurking around and went looking for older "are hybrids possible" threads and I noticed that on most of the older ones the whole psuedocreobotra hybrid accident would be mentioned.

    Nymph handling

I had a very jumpy orchid mantis who I handeled every other day and he got a lot less jumpy over time. Another thing I did was give him honey so I think that helped too. If your mantis still likes to run around a fun thing to do with them Is to get them to jump between hands by holding one hand...

    Cricket feeding experiments

This is very interesting, I wish more people on the forum would do these types of experiments wether it be with mantids or crickets. I never would have thought the crickets would like the dog treat with all the protein. Lol at the greedy cricket who took the piece to the corner

    Tenodera angustipennis

Tenodera augustipennis is nearly exactly the same as the Chinese mantis tenodera sinensis. The only difference is that these are slightly smaller with the orange spot. Another thing, Chinese mantises have a yellow dot not a red one. Neither of these species need the ooths to be diapaused.

    Hello from California!!!

Welcome to the jungle! Is this your first mantis?  i would never have been brave enough to get an idolomantis as a first of all things. Sadly I can't help you much with idolos as I have never kept one out of fear I wouldn't be able to give it the right conditions

    Hello from Kentucky!

Mantises are like Potato chips, you can't just have one. Anyways, a couple of good begginer mantises would be ghosts, things like hierodula, sphodromantis, and rhombodera (all of which are big, green, agressive, holdable, and the rhombodera gets a leaf shield on its thorax). Some sellers I...

Chinese Mantis falling off stick/side of cage

I don't think you should keep crickets in the cage with them. It will give them stress when their not hungry and in rare cases the crickets attack the mantis. Also, she could just be falling due to the missing feet and not being old. My first mantis only had 3 functioning feet and the rest were...

    Ghosts kind of macro eating

What are the 4 tentacle things at the very bottom/back of the mouth? Not the longer 4 on the sides, I've seen them hold food but the shorter, softer-looking ones. I've always noticed them but never could figure out their function. one more question, what Instar is the ghost?
