    Broken ankle

5 months is very old for a male mantis and he could be nearing the end of his lifespan. It's sad that they live so sort but that's just nature.

Is there a way to save it?

Update: sadly, pegleg died before he ever got the chance to molt. I was really hoping that I could get him to eat but he was just too weak too move around properly. But even though he died, I would still like to hear about the ramp Incase I or other mantis owners have the same problem in the future.

How do you prompt your mantis to crawl onto your hand?

I usually hold my hand in front of then in a way that it's like a wall. They like to climb up so usually they go right on but if one is too scared then I'll give it a little nudge and if they're still too scared I just put them back.

Is there a way to save it?

Could you Go into a bit more detail about the ramp and how you did it? I had thought of a risky plan myself to save him but I would like to hear your plan too. I know what you mean by they act like they don't even have a problem, pegleg(name of mantis) sort of developed a strange walk where one...

    Earthworms as feeders?

Although I never fed any mantis an earthworm I feel like they just wouldn't be a good feeder as they don't seem like they have much nutrients due to the fact that they pretty much eat leaf litter and dirt. regular feeders would likely be better.

    Tarachodula pantherina

They have the build of a tiny mantis like a boxer but are big like a stagmomantis  . Even more alien looking then the normal type mantis

Is there a way to save it?

I had just got 2 double shields (one was a Freebie) and when I opened the package and looked into one of the deli cups I noticed the mantis laying on the ground and having trouble walking. I looked closer to see he was missing his 2 left walking legs. I want to know if there is possibly a way to...

Can someone ID this species for me?

Yeah now that I have seen some pictures of an iris oratoria male it does seem a lot more like one of those. Sorry for the mistake, I expected males of those to look a lot different.

    Connor's Mantis Collection

That's a lot of mantids. The ghost is really cute with the baseball cap. Also, with so many mantids do you name them and get attached or just keep them and let them do their own thing?

    R. Megaera size?

Thanks for the answer, i had a little female who never made it to adult and was curious about how big she could have gotten. Also 4.5 inches?!  I always thought that any mantis over 4 inches would be one of the non bulky more slender types. .

    R. Megaera size?

How big does a female Megaera get? I have heard a lot of things about there size like how they are the largest mantis in captivity but don't know if it's true or not.

Species Identification Request, and other stuff.

That looks like a male European mantis, scientific name: mantis religiosa. Also I don't think the adult beetles are anything to worry about, just another mantis snack if your mantis likes beetles.

Green adult and subadult female Ghosts
