i found an adult wheelbug a couple of hours ago in my front yard. im planning on keeping it. is there any way to tell the males and female apart? and how long their lifespan is? and what food to feed them? im hoping i can feed him/her crickets/mealworms/waxworms

well one of my girls laid an ooth last night so shes safe and skinny. my other one still hasnt though

do the ooths need to be put in the fridge as soon as they're laid?

they're chinese mantids i'll try putting them on some live plants as sticks didnt seem to do anything

she died unfortunately yesterday morning. it really is a shame since she is beautiful and i really would love to have a walking stick pet

okay, i'll wait another week and just leave them be and see if they lay. what do i do if they still havent laid by then though?

i put some rose leaves inside the enclosure but she hasnt moved. the body isnt stiff and i had her all day so she isnt dead yet since theres no rigor mortis. how do they eat leaves exactly? do they chew the leaves like a caterpillar or do they suck the sap out of the leaves?

well their abdomens are very very plump and i know its not food weight because i tried to feed them they didnt eat and they've been about the same weight for awhile now i tried providing sticks it didnt seem to do anything

i'd have to pick her up because i placed her in an enclosure and using a computer to take a picture inside the enclosure would be very very difficult

so i have two most likely gravid wild caught females who have yet to lay their egg cases? how do i get them to lay? and what are the chances of the eggs actually hatching? these were wild caught mantids i dont know if they mated or not, they werent gravid when i caught them but overtime they...

also i havent been able to get my phone to work properly so im struggling to take a good pick of her with my computer because im hesitant to pick her up because what if that just hurts her more?

found one this morning on a walk on the sidewalk among a bunch of sticks. took her home (assuming its an her) but she hasnt moved all that much, just waved one of her antennae around a bit and moved one of her legs. she has pooped about 5 times, with two of them looking like they're bloody...

maybe try pulling the eggs out with a pair of tweezers and then gently putting some gauze on the hole?
