What do you do with your mantids during vacations?

For three or four-day weekends, we feed and hydrate them well, leave a little food in their containers, and make sure they have moist substrate/proper humidity (especially if we’re expecting molts or ooths). Anytime  longer, we leave them with a friend. The biggest challenge we had was last...

Praying Mantis Kid's book- pictures needed!

On another note, maybe we should move this to PM until it gets resolved because the topic is not in the scope of the forum?

Praying Mantis Kid's book- pictures needed!

You can search embedding fonts for MS Word 2010 online, but try this: 1. Click the File tab and go to Options. 2. At the left of the dialog box, click save. 3. Check the “Embed Fonts In the File” check box. 4. Click Ok.

Praying Mantis Kid's book- pictures needed!

What version of MS Word are you using? There should be an option to: Save As/Tools/Save Options/Embed fonts. Then you can save as PDF.  If your version of MS Word cannot save as PDF,  you can download and install free software for that, like doPDF (http://www.dopdf.com/) I believe LuLu prefers...

1st attempt - mating enclosure advice.

@Synapze I think Carolinas are really nice mantids, especially the females, who are cool-tempered and don’t fly 🙂 I’ll keep my 🤞 and hope for a green adult 😊 Were the nymphs that turned out green similar in color to this L1?

1st attempt - mating enclosure advice.

@Synapze I would love to to have green carolinas for a change. We’ve had brown carolinas (wild-caught) for a couple of years as pets, and this is the first time we have bred a pair. Were your green carolinas from a green mantis? I read that nymphs can develop the color of their surroundings...

1st attempt - mating enclosure advice.

Looks good, but will probably help if you chech up on them periodically.  We were successful in mating our carolinas last fall (Sep-Nov). Made sure that both were well fed, then put the male in her cage. As soon as he spotted her, he immediately wasted no time, but always mounted backwards then...

    Hi! Newbie from Missouri

Cool! Since we are not ready for baby mantids yet, we put the ooth in a container and stored it in the fridge’s veggie crisper (based on what I’ve read from some of the posts). We hope to have some by Spring ?

    Hi! Newbie from Missouri

Hi guys, I’m Scott—Sean’s dad. Thanks for all of your replies and comments. It’s good to part of this awesome community! So, any chance that this ooth could be fertile? We found Mantha in our garden on Oct 13, and she laid this ooth on Nov 1st.

    Hi! Newbie from Missouri

Hi everyone! My name is Sean, and I’m 6 (almost 7) years old. I love my pet mantis. I found her in our yard two days ago. Her name is Mantha. My dad said that maybe she is a female because she has six segments. Also, we are not sure what kind of mantis she is.
