RPG or D&D for Mantis Fans?

I've been a GM for many years and currently run a sci-fi Roll20 campaign.  I'd be interested to see what this is all about.   Count me in.  ... it's worth a shot.

    Texas Unicorns discussion thread

Yeah, the stench and general weather conditions are some of the many reasons why I moved-- not to mention the super fun tornadoes, hail, and ice storms. I only got my car smashed once by a flying billboard during a super cell advancement so I consider myself lucky.  Concerning the native...

    Praying mantis mating dance??

The demonstrated behavior appears to be more of an effort to avoid detection from the female against an artificial/slick plastic surface within a confined container (this would not like be observed in the wild).  If you notice, the male is not advancing or staying in one place but rather trying...

    Texas Unicorns discussion thread

No problem.  I lived in Terre Haute, IN for 14 years and I never came across Mantis religiosa one time in all of my field work in the state.  They are only found in the extreme northern portion of Indiana but could very well spread elsewhere over time. I suspect that competition from the endemic...

    Pseudovates arizonae

Species treatment for Pseudovates arizonae complete. Very interesting mating strategies involved in this species: Females tend to mature to adulthood before males and are more commonly encountered. Mating readily takes place approximately 2 weeks after final molt. Males quickly advance upon...

    Texas Unicorns discussion thread

Sure, no problem.  I will post the update on Pseudovates arizonae today, including an accurate distribution map.  The species treatment for Pseudovates chlorophaea (including the referenced notation of the genus revision and synonymy with Phyllovates) should be completed by early February.  In...

I can help provide distribution maps of all U.S. and Canadian species (some species are still in process but most have been completed). Full documentation and book should be out by Fall 2017.

    Oligonicella scudderi

Yes, please do.  There are no collection records or literary evidence of this species being found in Arizona. Let me know what you discover.   Kris

    Oligonicella scudderi

Great! Do you have any photos to share ... or collection records from northern AL?  It is speculated to occur there but there are no voucher specimens from that area as of yet.   Kris

    Oligonicella scudderi

The species treatment for Oligonicella scudderi has been finalized.  If you have any additional data regarding the biology of this species, please contact me for submission.   Biology.  Oothecae are light tan to golden brown in coloration and contain between 10-20 eggs. The globular-shaped case...

    "Oligonicella" mexicana

Currently seeking information concerning O. mexicana.  Has anyone ever kept or bred this species before?  Our biological data is fairly sparse thus far.  A distribution map is attached.  Note: This species has currently been revised and moved into a new genus-- Bistanta.  Publication and...

    Greetings

Excellent! Any data/photos that you have would be useful I'm sure. I figured that most breeders and hobbyists would either retain their dead pets or bury them like you do but maybe there's a few out there that need to find a new home (crypt).  I keep all of my deceased mantises as well.   Merry...

    Data needed

That is a most interesting note!  I have heard of this occurrence with other species but never with T. sinensis.  Very good data.  Thanks for sharing!

    WANTED: Dead mantises

Greetings, crypt keepers! For our present study addressing the biology of praying mantises found in the United States and Canada, we are in need of a wide series of voucher specimens.  If you would like your dead mantis to be forever entombed and remembered through a scientific study, please...

    Data needed

Greetings! I am conducting a present study addressing the biology of praying mantises found in the United States and Canada.  This monograph features an in-depth analysis of relevant taxonomy and ethology of our local mantis species.  Much of the biological data has already been documented and...

    Iris ooth care?

No, I'm not keeping any at the moment.  I only had 2 males reach maturity and I did not mate them with the surviving females. The mating rituals and behaviors of this species are well documented so I just needed data from the earlier stages of development is all.
