My new nano exo terra 20*20*30 enclosure. Ghosts arriving in 2 weeks, hope they'll like it ^^

well at first she was a completely normal ghost mantis, after her last molt, she had nothing that went bad, but then at some point she ate the front foot thingy, so she was left with just the claw on it, maybe that could be it?

My female mantis is getting 2-4 bottleflies a day and is really fattend up, today I woke up to her eating her own front leg. Any idea why she's doing this?

She just started laying an ooth, but when the first egg came out she was struggling and didn't quite knew what to do, she took her abdomen out of the mixture and started rotating it. then she just dropped it and she stopped producing the ootheca. Now I have about 1cm of ooth with no eggs in it...

When a male mantis mates with a female mantis, does the sperm package stay within the female forever, or is it like a 1 time use. I had a female and male mantis, but yesterday the male died, they did mate a lot before. Will the ootheca still contain little mantids or will it be emty?

The last days she's been moving around a lot, and that's quite the odd behavior for her since she normally just choses a spot and hangs from there for a few days. I think she's looking for a spot to lay her ootheca but I'm not quite sure. Anybody got some explanation or advice?

Ehm, this is an exo terra terrarium 45cm*45cm*60cm, with the standard background, but I filled it up with bark from a dead tree that I found in my backyard. I dried it so it would start growing mold. The soil is a mix of dirt and pieces of wood that got scrambled in some sort of machine we use...

So my female Ghost mantis is about 2 weeks into adulthood right now and she has mated like 8 times already, when should I expect to see the first ootheca appear? Right now she's nice fed, I try not to overfeed her since I read something about egg bounded animals, so right now she eats about 4-5...

Was about time to start adding some new moss, since the old got brown and well, it's a whole new enclosure. Love the smell of the forest when I stick my head inside there ^^ and it seems my mantids also really love it :D  

Thanks for the help, they are now walking around again seperated, and it seems like the male really has his appetite back, he just finished his 4th fly for today, I'm gonna take away the food for now so he doesn't over eat himself, I heard of some cases where they burst because they are not used...

Yeah I'm really relieved that he continues to live. Meanwhil he has been mating with the female for like the past 34 hours. Really weird most of the time he's just sitting on top of her abdomen lose. The female doesn't really seems to have a problem with him riding her back :P

Finally, after 3.5 weeks he has eaten, I'm really surprised he didn't die or anything. Meanhwile the female eats about 4 bottle flies a day and they have mated already, only 1 week into her adulthood :D  excited for babies :D  well I still have to wait a couple months for that :P
