well it seems the male mantis is really the superior hunter in my cage :o  he just ate his 3d blue bottlefly and the females only caught some fruitflies :P

    L5 ghost mantids won't eat

yup, I started feeding them banana pieces on a stick and they loved that. it's actually easier if u just take some banana that's quite liquid and just hang it on their hands, they will eat it aswell and u don't have to sit there 20 minutes xd so now one of them just ate a big fat blue bottle...

    L5 ghost mantids won't eat

okay thanks a lot :)  I'm just worrying that they will starve since they aren't that great hunters themselves and that they look pretty thin :P

    L5 ghost mantids won't eat

So recently 3 of my ghosts molted into L5, and now they all look quite flat so I figured they'd be pretty hungry. But none of them want to eat anything, they all just swipe their prey away from them, are they sick or is this behavior normal? I tried giving them honey, this works though but I...

    nematodes

Hello everyone Just a quick question here, I just sprayed my vivarium a bit and saw some little white worms on the sides of the glass. Turns out they are Nematodes, I don't really know what they do or how they got there, but is there anyone that could tell me if they are dangerous to my insects...

What habitat for a small mantis?

I find part of the hobby of building and watching your terrarium very interesting, it's just so cool seeing your insects create their own foodchain and ecosystem. It's like a small part of jungle in my home :D

What habitat for a small mantis?

You can also build a terrarium like I did, but I heard the mantis doesn't really care about its environment. I find a terrarium much cooler to look at instead of just a cup. But that's just the way I see it, deli cups should be fine!

    Housing different insects together

Okay roger that, but I'll try to house some lacewings in my terrarium because since Ive had so much springtails running around lately (they just popped up out of nowhere in a few days) I can see red mites also running around them trying to eat them. So if that happens there is no stopping the...

    Housing different insects together

Well I was thinking of maybe adding some stick insects to my enclosure which hold ghost mantids, since every care sheet tells me that they do not eat anything larger than their head size, is this true or not? Can I house different insects together without the mantids eating the others?

    My terrarium

sounds nice, well In the beginning I put way too much water in it and there was like a cm on the bottom always. Then the mycelium started to spread and some shrooms popped up. Luckily my pill bugs love shrooms xD, but then I was on a vacation and I let the terrarium dry out. Most of the mycelium...

    My terrarium

Thought I'd share my terrarium build with you all, been working on it a lot and I've let the internet inspire me. I tried to create my own little ecosystem in there and so far it's all going as planned. it's a 45cm*45*60 container and I'm planning on keeping 3 ghosts in here. :)

    Shrooms

Okay thanks both of you, I'll probaply redo it then, I've also seen that my isopods really really enjoy the spores that fall out of the mushrooms. As soon as this happens you see them all crawling out of every corner to fight for what's left.

    Shrooms

Hello everyone Does anyone know if shrooms are harmful for mantids? I recently build my terrarium, I used coco husk and wood we scrambled with some machine as soil. But then after some weeks I saw mycelium growing in the part we made ourselves. I've already seen 2 mushooms popping up, but I...

    Hello from Belgium

Hello everyone I am pleased to be able to be part of this cool forum I'm 20 years old and, like well most of you I guess, I'm very interested in keeping mantids as pets. I don't own any of them yet, but this will change in a few weeks, since I will order my first 3 mantids of Ghost mantis...
