    Sybilla mantids in love <3

Nevermind. I don't even know why I believed one of these could be S. dolosa to begin with. Colors and wing shape totally match pretiosa for both sexes. They're pretiosa.

So I haven't found those books yet but I'm still looking for documentation on the difference between the species, because as it was, they seemed to be almost identical minus size. Female has long died and the male is still eating like usual, and they laid in total 8 egg sacs, with two of them...

No problem. I have some book hunting to do now! :P Thanks for the references.

Tier is not answering my email/PM for some reason. Is anyone else here available to look at some close-up pictures [by email] to help identify the exact species of either parent?

    Pnigomantis medioconstricta

I have a pair of these that are presubadult. They are some of the most aggressive mantids I've kept. I Absolutely love the pictures, by the way, to those who posted. I think the eyes are especially pleasing to look at, coupled with the rustic wings look and the rough-edged claws.

On the bottom of the thorax? I can take some tomorrow night (too sleepy today) and email them to ya'.

Well, as I said, I'm not sure of anything, other than there are ooths and she has been laying weekly. I'm fairly certain Lars knows his stuff (the dolosa came from him), and I believe I got the pretiosa from someone in the states. I can't remember who sold it to me - if you sold me an L5 or...

So, I had a pair of S. dolosa and S. pretiosa for several months now. However, one mate from either pair died. I did buy another S. doloosa, but it's a couple molts away from adulthood, so I couldn't wait for that to transform. Yadda yadda yadda, I decided to try and cross them. I have a female...

I'm experiencing cannibalism with the nymphs. One is L3 already!

    Burnneria borealis

Update: I'm down to 4 nymphs, one at L2. I've noticed now that there is cannibalism. Well apparently I'm pretty slow. Today was the smoking gun when I found the L2 nymph with an outrageously oversized thorax and a missing nymph in its cup. I don't get it. I stuck a bunch of D. melos in there...

Andrea, they're parthenogenic, so no males needed!

    Brunneria borealis nymphs

Back down to 7 with the random mortalities. One has molted to L2, but lost two legs in the molt. I think I'm going to wait another couple of sheds before selling them, as it's still pretty small and fragile.

    Burnneria borealis

And another one died today. I don't freaking understand it. I don't know if it's the small spiders outside the containers coming into the cups from the air holes and biting them or what, but this is ridiculous. I'd have 12 or so hatched so far, but I'm down to 7 with the deaths. I kept the ooth...

    Burnneria borealis

Thanks. I just had another nymph pop out last night, so this ooth for me fortunately is giving me several chances to get it right.

    Burnneria borealis

My nymphs are having some mortality right now. Alive for three to four days, and then die after having a fruit fly or two. I replaced the lids of the containers so they're the aerated ones that come on the 32 oz. FF culture cups, as the only thing I could attribute it to was poor ventilation...

What's the instar/length? What are you feeding them?

    Brunneria borealis nymphs

10 nymphs hatched so far. 8 of them are actively feeding on D. melos. They seem to take three days before they're interested in food, and I've noticed cannibalism [or an attempt at it, rather] in a couple of them. One just hatched out this morning. None have molted yet.
