No, that is perfectly normal. Most varieties will take on some degree of red coloring with proper lighting, and there are even all red forms like 'Red Dragon', 'Red Piranha', 'Pink Venus', etc.

They will definitely be able to take both D. melanogaster and D. hydei, and may be ready for houseflies. Bug Trader should be able to help you out with feeders.

Lay the paper on your shelf and sit the culture cups on it. Exposing the interior of the cup will kill the fruit flies as well as the mites, and even if some flies survived feeding them off would expose your mantids.

Freeze your cultures and start over with clean stock. Mite paper helps to prevent contamination between cultures but does nothing for those that are already infested.

No reason to remove the background if they are going in a cabinet.

Be careful with the mister, a spray at the wrong time could knock one down during a molt. I spent a lot of time beating my head against the wall trying to figure out a way to safely use my system but eventually gave up, it's not worth the risk in my opinion.

heck, you can't even have the AR to put a silencer on in the first place. At least not one recognizable as an AR. It's a shame to see what California has become.
