    Hatching nymphs!

I found this pic online that might help identify the species. :)

    Pest ID help

@hibiscusmile All cleaned up. It took longer to pick out the beetles than it did to sanitize the enclosure. Now it's time to bake some substrate before the spouse gets home. 😁 Thanks to everyone for the advice.

    Pest ID help

I haven't tried mite paper. The only place I see them are in the enclosure... they can't climb out. Cleaning it all out is on my to on today's chore list. It's an enclosure with about 12 blue death feigning beetles. Another enclosure with 10 which is pest free. Trying to breed these cute...

    Pest ID help

Luckily it appears they can't climb smooth surfaces. 🤞 I think this enclosure needs a reset.

    Pest ID help

In the freezer they went and you're right... book lice! I wasn't able to do an good image search with the low quality photos I took. I had placed a bark log covered with lichen in the enclosure, so I believe that was the source. According to what I've read they like lichens and mold. 🤦🏽 I'm just...

    Pest ID help

One of my beetle tanks is infested with these things. They can't fly or climb smooth surfaces, and drown when misted... which has been my strategy so far. I really don't want to break down this enclosure. Has anyone else encountered these pests? 😕 These are the best images I can get because...

    Molting

I don't think the sugar adds any necessary nutrients, it just makes feeding a little less frustrating. When you tap flies into the enclosures most of the powdered sugar remains in bottom of the cup and the fruit flies just kind of roll out. The mantis will eat with the sugar still clinging, but...

    Molting

I put some finely ground pollen or a little powered sugar in a 16oz and knock in however many fruit flies you think you'll need. Swirl the cup around until the flies are covered with the powder. It clings to their bodies and keeps them from crawling all over the place... and it makes it easier...

    Molting

I generally wait about 24 hours after molt before feeding.

    My presentation

Welcome 👋 Isn't Litaneutria minor a native species in Canada? It's a lovely species.

    Black spots

She must have been a later instar when you got her if you've had her since December and she's already had her final molt. Did you mean to say the humidity drops to 11%? A good humidity range for this species is 40-60%. This particular species is very susceptible to illness due to excess...

    Black spots

How old is she? I've seen these before, but usually in older specimens. Nice enclosure btw.

    Heating and light

I use this type. Cheap and easy to install. You can also find other colors that might match the interior color better. BTW... I want that cabinet!

    Heating and light

Nice enclosures! With only 2 enclosures in that size cabinet I think it would provide adequate ventilation. You could warm that small compartment with a 10w adjustable heat mat. I wouldn't suggest placing an heat mat against the acrylic. Some acrylics can't take the heat and may warp. I've used...

    Hello bug friends!

    Molting

Keep an eye on humidity and temperature. Some species are more prone to dies offs and there's not a whole lot you can do other than feed well and watch your levels. Chinese mantids for example seem to have a high die off rate.
