I've known a couple of people who have used Chinese mantis nymphs as feeders. That's something I could never do.

I was called out (politely) on Instagram after I posted a mantis eating a katydid. I honestly didn't realize people kept them as pets and would get upset seeing one used as a feeder. 😬

Personally, I think your nymph is too young to be experimenting with their diet. Have you tried melanogasters? They are smaller than hydei and may be easier for your mantis to capture. When you say "cooked meat", is the meat seasoned?

You can, but you really shouldn't. It's not uncommon for people to try, but unfortunately they often end up asking why their mantis died. 🤷‍♂️ Unable to catch a fruit fly? What instar is your mantis?
