Excellent as always! All the mantids I ordered arrived alive and happy, including a bunch of extras. Expertly packed as usual. I'm sooo thrilled with my new babies. :D

    Alexander's Mantids: 2012 - Present

It seems like you rarely see them in culture? I heard they're a challenge to breed. And I assume, not very easy to find in the wild either.

Murderous Ants killed nymph iris oratorias! Help!

Uh oh...ants can easily hitchhike in/on plants that I move in and out according to the seasons. And they are crawl inside under the cracks in the windowsils, doors, etc., I really hope they won't find (or bother) my mantids, because that would be bad. And would make me very, very angry. :censored:

    Sphodropoda quinquedens

Someone else who has them said the females are aggressive and the males are skittish and get easily freaked out. So far my subadults are pretty mellow, but who knows. I don't know if their temperament will change once they reach adulthood.

    Hymenopus Coronatus Female (some shot)

Wow, amazing pictures! Such sharp, vibrant colors, and the red/green contrast add a beautiful artistic touch to the photos.

My freshly molted adult female beautiful Ghost

Aww, she's a darling! Ghosts were the first "exotic" mantids I've raised, and I still miss the first one that matured to adult.

    Sphodropoda quinquedens

They have the sweetest personalities. Very curious and fun to interact with, not skittish at all. And not very aggressive. Every time they look at me, it's like they're smiling, with their red outlined mouths. I know, they can be compared to the very sinister Joker villain. But I tend to think...

The Texas unicorn is so beautiful!

    Sphodropoda quinquedens

The male's eye color contrasts pretty sharply with his body color. Females have more "lipstick" - how come I'm not surprised by that.

Beautiful photos! I love the incredible detail and the vibrant colors.

    Feeding a Crippled Mantis

I agree! I've had mantids that had their raptorials bent outwards, or stuck in an unusable position. Within the next molt, the issue would be corrected. However, having raptorials stuck in the old exoskeleton is more of an issue. Apparently it caused my mantis to lose both her arms. I don't...

    Feeding a Crippled Mantis

I will go to the ends of the earth to make sure my little one gets the most out of her life. Unfortunately because her arms were damaged in old exoskeleton and I have no idea what happened, a few days after, she chewed most of her arms off, leaving only nubs (to be more exact, she chewed off her...

    Carolina mantis Ootheca Problem

Here's a sample setup. For that particular ooth, I'm not sure why I glued the ooth to a twig and then the twig to the lid - I could've simply glued the ooth directly to the lid.

Murderous Ants killed nymph iris oratorias! Help!

These ants are really powerful, determined little buggers. A couple times I had ants take up residence inside the pots of my potted plant. Whenever I give the plants a good drench, swarms and swarms of ants would crawl out, all over the plant, up my arms, over my shoes, I was still feeling ants...

Mantis Hobby interferes with Family Life Support Group

I need help. I tried getting the # of species under 10, but that didn't work out too well. I feel like I'm spending too much time taking care of them. But the greatest sacrifice I have to make is...not going on vacations. I love traveling and exploring the world, and I can afford to do so and I...

    Help ID-ing Ooths from Ebay

I just checked ebay and it seems like all the "Carolina" ooths look like Tenodera angustipennis! Maybe the sellers aren't intentionally duping people, but they surely aren't doing their homework. Unfortunately, last year, I did not keep my S. carolina's going. I just released them or gave them...

    Gongylus gongylodes

Congrats! Looks like there'll be many ooths and babies in the future! :) Any breeding tips? How long did you wait to get them to breed? Did you heat up the male beforehand? I read the caresheet and it said that exposing the females to temps that are too high will cause them to be eggbound...

    Mantis, PROHIERODULA sp.

Wow, I love those eyes! Am I really seeing blue? Any mantis with blue eyes has a special place in my heart.
