Pet shop managers tell their staff, "By the way, if anyone asks what kind of crickets we carry, just say they're banded." I would have bought some anyway. The second generation seems to be fine. Just noisy as all get out.

The pet store said they were banded, but I don't think they knew what they were talking about. No, these suckers must be Acheta domesticus. Maybe if I threatened the crickets. "Shut up or I'll feed you off."

How was I to know that there's a large chicken body attached to that small chicken head?

The novelty wears off after a day Rebecca. Now the noise is starting to annoy me.

Cool. Not all heating methods require one. It's interesting how different groups of pet enthusiasts use different rearing methods, but they all work. Mantises, tarantulas, ants, reptiles, amphibians. We're like a bunch of separate echo chambers. We could learn from each other.

Originally, the gutted freezer with the heat tape was going to be my feeder habitat. I figure I'll just make that my tarantula habitat, since they should probably have more 'gentle' heat anyway. I'll use the new industrial strength heat mat for the feeders.
