let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

I just ordered a heat mat that would keep a spotted salamander warm the night before the Iditarod.

let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

I just ordered a heat mat that would keep a Siberian Husky warm the night before the Iditarod. If that doesn't get my dubias up to optimal temperatures, I give up.

lol. "Smushing" rivets means crimping them. No, the connections are fine. It's the tape itself. It just doesn't get all that hot. Anything over 105 degrees is a fire hazard. I suspect that most heat tape users keep their snake bins in a room that's already pretty warm. If I wanted to keep...

The crimping was tedious. In the future, I think I'll just solder the wire directly to the heat tape. I did give the heat tape a trial run. So far I'm a bit underwhelmed with the amount of heat it generates. I may end up connecting my thermostat to a heat mat instead.

Why does my Ghost keep doing this?

When you say he's stuck, do you mean that literally?

I ended up 'smushing' the rivets in a vise. They ain't pretty, but I don't think they'll catch on fire. :)

Thanks. If I find my existing tools to be unsuitable, I'll send the heat tape your way.

Heating supplies arrived. Now I have to wire things up. I didn’t buy crimpers. I’m planning on improvising with pliers or a vise.

    Rainbow mealworms

I had mentioned my failed Shelfordella lateralis colony on another thread. I decided to give them another try with stock from Rainbow Mealworms. They were super pleasant during the whole ordering/shipping process. The roaches arrived happy and healthy, and Rainbow Mealworms included two extra...

I cut a square hole in the lid of the new enclosure, and plugged some high-density foam rubber into the opening. It would make feeding easier, instead of untwisting the top. (Always ruins his web.). I know mantises can’t gnaw through foam, but what about tarantulas?

let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

I just rehoused my Stromatopelma calceatum sling and it was semi-stressful. I used a technique I saw on YouTube, but it operates under the assumption that the tarantula is at the bottom of the initial enclosure. This guy's been hanging out up near the lid pretty much from day one. Eventually...

Thanks. I might take you up on that. I foresee a certain degree of experimentation, however, in order to get the right setup. That's why I'd prefer to be self sufficient. It looks like they're asking for $60 now. I guess I can deal with that...

let's start a thread of mundane occurrences!

You know what aggravates me? If you need to connect Flexwatt heat tape to wires, you need a $100 crimping tool. Unless you intend to go into business, how many times in your life will you need that tool? On an unrelated note, some folks swear by organic produce for their roaches. Is that...

Reminds me of the guy who video taped himself sleeping in the back of his Tesla, while it was in self-driving mode.
