    SUPRISE!

I left work late this morning and was rushing out to the parking lot so I could get home. As I came to my car I nearly stepped on a large green and brown female chines mantid! I did a double take and sure enough there she was standing in the parking lot looking right back at me. I took out the...

    Ant Protection

I would think creating a band of vaseline around the outter lid of your enclosures would keep the ants from crawling in. I know it works with roaches and some other insects. I havent seen it tried with ants but dont know why it wouldnt work.

    Mystery Grasshopper

I was at work last night catching breackfast for my mantids and was lucky enough to find 7 grasshoppers all in one small area. Most of them seem to be Melanoplus differentailis however one of them I just cant ID. It looks almost exactly like Trimerotropis pallidipennis but it has a hump or ridge...

The Launch of Atlantis: The End of an Era

I think the best answer is the Fair Tax Plan. See www.fairtax.org for more information.

    Mantis eating bananas?

That does seem strange. Normaly I would say its thirsty but if your mantid is well watered I guess thats not likely the issue. I know mantids will take small amounts of honey if its offered to them...maybe yours just had a sweet tooth?

Life Span of Sphodromantis sp. Adult Males

I have a pair of Sphodromantis sp. Blue Flash mantids that I plan to mate. My problem is that when I got them the male was already sub-adult and the female seems to be two molts behind him. The male molted to adult two days ago and is now a beautiful blue-gray color. I placed him in my air...

The Launch of Atlantis: The End of an Era

The sad thing is that almost half of Americans think that space exploration DOESNT matter. I got into a nasty "debate" with my step mom who said more or less that NASA is worthless. :(

Is There an Arthropod You DO NOT Like?

Oh and to all of who have said you should try keeping a spider (or other creature you fear) as a pet I do have a couple "pet" house spiders that I let hang out in my home (one in my bathroom and another by my back door). While I dont exactly take care of these spiders I dont believe in needless...

Thanks guys. Ive never shipped an ooth but with any luck I will have some soon. I dont think I want to keep them so more than likely I will be selling/trading them here. I just wanted to make sure they will make it from point A to point B safely. :)

    first mantis

My first mantis was a orange and redish brown Chinse mantid that I named Scarlet. I caught her in my yard three years ago. I have yet to find another mantis as friendly as she was. I was able to find a male and mate her. Scarlet lived with me until mid-October when it became to hard for me to...

    Just Caught a Chinese Mantis

I found one the other day but let him go so he could make some more mantid babies for my yard. If I had found a femle to mate him with I would have kept him. I find Chinese mantids in the same spot in my yeard every year. They are a load of fun.
