    Giant shield is ok, but once it gets closer to adult it needs ALOT of food. Mass to food easiest is any native species. Like Giant Chinese, Egyptian and Limbatas. About 4-6" in length and still doesn't eat like fat little piggies lol. All 3 of those species need at least 10" x 10" enclosures...

    easiest to know where you live and what you have to keep them in ^_^ But easiest in the western US is usually, S limbata's, ghosts(for there communal-ness), and a small one is miomantis paykulli. Hope this helped.

    In my opinion, captive breed mantis are not breed on there selective strengths. But by how pretty they are, because we can just keep them constantly fed and under the best treatments the weakest mantises can thrive. I imagine that in the wild, only the females that can lay alot of nymphed...

    you do know that mantis can go like a week without food right? I personally don't like the idea of feeding a mantis till its "full", because they would certainly not live like that in the wild, would they? To me, its just not a natural thought. Its probably just me, but i like to feed mine...

    i still cant really tell, but i have one more nymph that has to shed once more, maybe he is the male. I just thought it was wierd that they shed like days before each other and one is fat and eat like a little fatty and the other is skinny and eats almost nothing lol. Never had this species...
