    feedback

Since most people use paypal, it is also good to remember paypal has a 180 day period where you can open a dispute. One of the reasons scammers do what they do is because too many people don't realize their options and the scammers make enough profit to keep at it.

    Eye Squiggles...parasite?

To me it looks like the beginning of some eye spots that can form from things like rubbing their faces repeatedly on cage walls/lids. Looks pretty minor so hopefully a shedding will remedy it.

    Antennae

Mantises will flatten their antennae back when doing things like eating, mating, and when they are frightened. My guess is the behavior likely evolved to help protect the antennae from injury since they are so delicate.

    Neocaridina Shrimp as Feeders

I would think as a treat they would be fine. As far as how easy to feed, that really depends on what sort of mantises you are keeping. For instance if I was going to feed of a shrimp I would merely use the long forceps I keep around to wiggle it in front of one of my girls. I hand feed them prey...

    Mantids for Kids

It really depends on the mantis and the child. I was in elementary school when I kept my first mantis. She was a wild caught, adult Tenodera sinensis. She was the mantis that made me fall in love with mantises. Never threw so much as a threat pose in my direction despite all the handling. I knew...

    Toilet trained mantids ??

One time I was taking photos of one of my mantises perching on a tiny dollhouse size toilet. She pooped and despite her butt being over the toilet at the time, still managed to miss. For that reason I'm going to go with a solid no on the potty training. :stuart:

    They is risen !

Hahaha congrats. I had an ootheca of Tenodera sinensis hatch Christmas day. Naturally I went with Christmas themed names and have their tank decorated with Christmas decorations. XD

    10 Gal tank? 10 Mantids?

You can keep early instar Chinese mantises together with minimal cannibalism if offered enough room and plenty of food. Around L3 though is when I would personally suggest separating them. You can sex them fairly easy at that age, so I would pick out a couple you like for keepers. You really...

Stuck in molt before even molting

I wanted to chime in on this. Every once in a while I will get a mantis that seems like it is ready to shed but just keeps delaying. In all cases I have found getting them on some natural sticks gets them shedding (often within less than an hour of the move). I have a 100 gallon tank and I often...

What Did You Get For the Holidays?

My mantises gave me an ootheca that hatched on Christmas. I thought it was a dud since it had been sitting so long with nothing, but maybe I should have expected it since the father's name is Dashing.

    Pantry moth infestation

Yeah for larger racks in stuff you could even just get a full on mosquito net just to drape over your racks to help restrict their movements and keep the population boom under control. If you don't mind moths in your bug room but don't want to deal with them in the rest of the house you could...

    Pantry moth infestation

Depending on the size/number of bins and your set up you might find it is easier just to get a pop up net cage/structure and stick your bins in it rather than worrying about modifying all the bins themselves.

What are your mantids getting for Christmas?

They already have a 100 gallon exo terra tank decorated with Christmas stuff, what more do they want from me? I'm running out of ideas and space. Might just go simple and get a few syringes I like to have for offering water since I just pulled the last new one out of the drawer.

    MITES!!!!!!!!

I got mites once in a culture I picked up from a petstore. Rather than tap the flies out when I was ready to make a new one I let them climb out and jump out on their own. I had a separate large cup I let them jump into first. Then I tapped that a bunch so they and everything with them would...

    MITES!

Grain mites are a pain. They don't tend to hurt anything but they can be a big annoyance, especially if their population booms. Usually it is less about trying to eradicate them and more at controlling the numbers so their existence is fairly negligible. If you can, try to keep any substrate on...

    Using mantids for feeders

I don't use mantises as feeders as I treat them like pets. They also make for for bad feeders to begin with as you need to feed them other feeders to and culturing them takes a lot of effort compared to much easier options. While their are people that like to occasional treat their...

    Occasional shivers

There are several different behaviors I could see someone classifying as a shive that are perfectly normal. If you are talking about when their body seems to shudder but they don't otherwise flatten out or move into a stressed out posture, I tend to consider that their version of a wake up...

    Treasure Trove Island

Listen if their isn't a tiny treasure chest full of gold crickets and other pirate mantis booty you can't call it treasure trove island.

    This heat is pretty lame

With as hot is it where I am right now I'm not even sure I would trust overnight with an ice pack. I usually plan on not being able to order anything for at least half of each year.

    Aggressive female

Ironically I've found some of my most bold females to be some of my most chill breeders because they are so confident. It is usually my overly skittish girls more likely to turn on the boys and cause a problem. Over the years I've gotten in the habit of using a folded paper towel when removing...
