    Skin Art

A guy I sold a mantis too got a tattoo of it that covered his forearm. I was so tickled pink that I helped someone acquire a mantis and they liked it so much they immortalized it on their body. Unfortunately as its not my body nor my tattoo I don't think I should post it. Still SUPER cool tho...

CareSheet: Black Soldier Fly and Phoenix Worms

@cwebster Usually they are about the size of a normal sized wasp (Google should have pics of flies on hands for proper size comparison). However I found if you feed the worms less they will eventually pupate at a much smaller size and you can get flies half that size. I usually had one container...

    Miomantis , EXO Commune

I have been swapping my 3 mated females in and out of the `good enclosure` to lay their eggs. Keeping them all together would sure save me hassle but as I`ve named and bonded with all 3 I think I`d be pretty heartbroken if one of them got offed :P  Somehow I think the dozen or so males might...

    Exo Terra Horror Stories ?

Yup any exoterra I keep mantises in I just replace the metal mess with fiberglass. Its no harder then replacing any window screen. Other then that I have not had any problems with mine besides them being glass and unusable for some mantis species without some major modification to make the sides...

My praying mantis lost a leg :(

I think everyone in this hobby has had their share of 'tripods', I know I have. It can be very heartbreaking to watch a deformed mantis flail around for a day or so after it happens but they very quickly figure out the issue and carry on as if nothing is amiss. I wouldn't worry as one missing...

    new mantis advice

@danl82 Miomantis paykullii are little monsters who are happy to tackle most things you think no mantis in their right mind would. Flies of nearly any size should work. I have fed mine both bottle flies and hydei fruit flies as adults and they take both happily. I have had little issue getting...

    Gongy communal

@Bathory I am so jealous of that lovely green shade your boy has. So pretty, especially that pale green on his legs. There is still hope for my maybe boy then as he's at least 2 maybe 3 molts behind the largest ladies who are sub-adult. I've been trying to cheer him on to molt but I don´t think...

    Gongy communal

Great group! Do you know what instar you can tell gender by the antenna? Or alternatively what instar is your smallest male?  I also have a group going but Im fairly sure all 7 are female. There is only one that might not be.

    Total ghost mantis newbie

Ghosts are way calmer then chinese mantises. If you are worried just make sure to have something white under everything when you do the move so its harder to lose him. Until you get fruit flies you can always try to sweep the grass outside with a fine mesh net (I use a small goldfish net from...

You know your a mantis person when...

You are hyper aware of all flies anywhere near you and carry little bottles in your purse at all times so you can catch them wherever you are.  You have collected maggots from your green bin without flinching cause 'the kids' gotta eat.

    Exo terra for gongylodes?

@Bathory It is easier to retain heat as well. I think that is the main challenge with this species, somehow managing to maintain high temps and humidity while still having good ventilation. Its a juggling act for sure.

    Exo terra for gongylodes?

I actually have all my violins inside separate mesh cages that are all inside an exoterra. I needed a way to control their environment (mostly humidity) better so all their cages got stuck inside the exoterra. I had a bunch missmolt and die before I set them up like this so I would say I have...

    Miomantis Paykulii breeding

Beautiful mantises! I am really loving the mios Serle sent me. They are such a great species. Easy to care for, hearty, adorable, gorgeous translucent colours, and little murderous monsters that will eat anything. I have been having such a time feeding my violins anything but fruit flies that I...

    Canadian Fruit Flies

@gp724Or there is always kijiji! Found this add which also has bean weevils which might be perfect for you. I have never tried them myself but i have read good things. Perhaps do a bit of research and see if they might work instead of ffs :)...
