What's a good place to buy feeders from?

Mantisplace is great! I get bluebottles and either mealworms or waxworms for my chinese mantises from there, and I have always been satisfied. You may want to get a cold pack just in case though because the bluebottles are kind of a hassle to deal with if they hatch en route.

    Mantis has lost a forearm

I had a similar issue with a tenodera sinesis (the one in my profile picture actually!). He was maybe born without a forearm or lost it very very early because he didn't have one at L2. It took him until his sub-adult moult, so L8 in his case, in order for it to grow back to a functional size...

    My first mantis reached adulthood!

Thank you! I heard about that, so I actually sewed fiberglass windowscreen to the roof of his enclosure and that's what he's hanging off of. I hope that's a better material?

    Using moult to kick-start bioactive

I second this! I have white dwarf isopods and pillbugs (Armadillidium vulgare) in my vivarium and a lot of the time the moults are gone in minutes.

    My first mantis reached adulthood!

This morning I woke up and saw that my mantis, Terror, had moulted to adulthood! He and his brother Francis are the first mantises I've ever had--Francis is due to moult next week, he's a little slower--and I'm glad that the stressful moulting periods are over for Terror. As you might have...

    Possible abdominal infection?

Well... that is an interesting discovery! I guess a possible reason why the infection occurred is because I have been keeping their enclosures more humid. I will take care of them more like I do tenodera sinesis from now on, I suppose.

    Possible abdominal infection?

Thank you for your response. That's too bad about James, but I am concerned now that it may happen to his siblings, who receive identical care. Is there something I can do to prevent the others from getting sick? Also, I have raised James and his siblings from an ootheca. He did not hatch out...

    Possible abdominal infection?

I have an L4 Carolina mantis, James, who seems very sick. His last moult was on August 6th and he last ate on the 22nd, which is the last time I attempted feeding him. I noticed on the 21st of August that the lid of his deli cup had some red-brown splotches on it, but I decided to try a "wait...

    abdomen collapse

I had this issue with one of my tenoderas, very severe like in your photos where his abdomen sagged in both directions. I was able to fix it by moving him to a fishbowl where he couldn't really hang upside down. I would adjust the bowl's position now and then to make sure he was always at an...

    Hello!

Hi everyone! I'm new to mantis keeping (just got my first ootheca in April) and I wanted to join the forum so I could better learn how to take care of my mantises. Currently I have two chinese praying mantises and three carolina mantises. Attached is an image of my L8 chinese mantis, Terror...
