    Hello

Do you currently have any mantises?

    Pheremones?

In 2018, I had a female European mantis (all my mantises have been wildcaught Europeans) named Rachel. I left her out on the balcony overnight, in a mesh butterfly cage, and in the morning, there were a couple of males standing on the outside of her cage. The next day, the same result. I figured...

    Second Chances

Really? I thought they were both European. . . I guess this explains why Leif is smaller than Pat Mindy. They're past the age where I would have to worry about them randomly dying, right?

    Second Chances

My brother found a mantis nymph (I believe it's female) this morning while mowing the lawn. Yesterday my little sister found a baby mantis (I think it's male) while playing on the lawn. "Maryanna" kept her mantis in name, but I'm actually taking care of it because she' six and I own its cage. My...

    Tentative question. . .

Thanks. I really appreciate it. . . no one besides my immediate family reads it right now.

    Tentative question. . .

This makes me feel a bit like a spammer, but would anyone be interested in looking up my Star Wars spoof comic blog? It's at teenagesithapprentice.blogspot.com. . .  Just for the record, I write it as a hobby. I don't get paid in any way for it. And I'll only mention this once. Someone tell me...

    hello, mantis newbie here.

If it's an adult taking care of it shouldn't be too hard. You can take care of an adult 2" long mantis by tossing it a bug every so often. . . daily or so? That's what I did with my first mantises and they lived for a couple months. I'll admit it may not be the best model :)

Do People Ever Make Fun of You for Keeping Mantises?

I've done that too. . . what your friends did I mean. My biggest problem with keeping mantises is the guilt.

What’s up with my mantid’s eyes???

Isn't that like how black is the absence of all color because it absorbs all light? I'm just guessing based on that bit of knowledge, but I'd assume darker eyes absorb more light than light ones. . . I wouldn't quote me on that though.

Do People Ever Make Fun of You for Keeping Mantises?

The only person outside of my family or an online forum that I'm interested in mantises just said "cool" and never mentioned it again. Granted, I said that right before lockdown began.  Did any of your friends ever sort of convert and realize that mantises actually are pretty cool?

Can Someone Confirm If This Silly Sounding Thing is True?

Can they regenerate completely lost legs? Where they're supposed to go? I have a baby mantis with only five legs.

    Keeping the Praying Mantis Question

Does the book go over specifics of raising mantids and getting the eggs to hatch? Those are my two problem areas.

    They're Here!

Those mantises in our backyard must have hatched at last. I didn't see the hatching, and the nymphs must have dispersed before I could find them. . . but my sisters found a couple of baby mantids crawling around on the wall of the house :)   One of them seems to be doing pretty well. I'm...

    Moth Questions

I assumed they ate nectar and tried putting sugary water on a cotton ball. It stuck its proboscis in once. Otherwise, it always seemed to want to get off the blob. Wasn't really aware of the other stuff though. Sorry I didn't mention it sooner.

    Moth Questions

Thanks for the replies. . . I haven't been online much lately.  Yeah. . . it died the night after I posted the question and then I never got around to saying so. Sorry. . .

    Moth Questions

No, this doesn't belong in the feeding questions area.  My question is. . . my brother found this cocoon outside and a moth hatched out. That was a week ago, and its wings are still all crumpled and so are the legs - it can't move properly.  What should I do with it? I can't even figure out...

    Shello!

Hi! Lee was amazing. Then again, mantis hunting behavior usually is.

    First shed!!

That's great! Looking in and seeing that's happened is a pretty cool experience. . .  Did you see the skin on the floor and think one of your mantises had died for a split second? That's what I did when one of my mantises first molted. . . then I looked up and saw the mantis, alive, on the...
