Awesome! I do have two 12x12x18s to house my largest species as adults, just so (like you said) there is more space to move and decorate, but I''m happy that the 8x8x12s are big enough for me go get more than 2 of the larger species if I wish, without having to buy more large terrariums. Thanks! 

When it comes to calculating the minimum enclosure size, it is based to give enough room for molting, correct? I was planning on keeping a Rainforest mantis in a 8x8x12 terrarium. Once it has substrate this will cut it down to less than 12 high. I was told I should have taller because they can...

So I've been setting up my Exo Terras with Eco Earth, and even tho I don't wish to live plant (I have a black thumb), I was still interested in adding some springtails, but I'm not 100% sure of what the steps or requirements are. If someone could help me with my million questions I'd really...

So now it looks like I may  have to cover the right side of each terrarium with a background of some sort to block view between mantids. Neighbors just keep having stare-offs that last hours! LOL ... Or maybe they think the other if food.  Is this stressful for them, or should I cover one side...

LOL thanks  :P I went with LED!  I think Arduino is over my head, but I went all fancy with the option to change light color via a remote control... That's as electronic as I get LOL The lights are supposed be here tomorrow. I'll definitely post photos when I get it set up! :D  

I've told myself that this shelf is my MAX - lets see if I stick to that limit :P   I just order a 2nd large terrarium. I plan to use those for larger mantis species. I'd also like to eventually use one to keep a group of ghosts. I almost ordered a few, but I'm nervous about housing mantids...

That's the problem I had... 2 on the kitchen counter, 1 on the table, 2 on the entrance console, empty tanks on the floor, feeders hidden here and there lol

Thanks. She molted ok, but i'm happy I stayed up with her. She started molting in the worse possible place - facing and almost directly touching the glass side of her terrarium. When she was almost out she tried to climb up to hang from the top, but the couldn't grip the glass, and in the...

She's molting now. And definitely at subadult --- teeny tiny wings :D

Wow, certainly looks like it! but my girl is not as big as Ripley looks in that photo. I thought she was subadult but was suggested that she was presub.  I attached a photo that I took yesterday to show her size in comparison to my hand. I also just noticed that she keeps moving her abdomen...

Yes, she's sluggish, that's the word I was looking for. Yesterday she seemed clumsy when she was out on my hand. She had her last molt on Dec. 23rd, so I'm assume she's due any day. This is the only photo I can get, as I don't want to disturb her.  Unfortunately I'm unable to see her underside...
